Max, "Carles" is "Charles" in Catalan, the language spoken in Catalonia (split between Spain and France), Andorra, the Balearic Islands, the Valencia region and in Alghero in Sardinia. I am from Barcelona.

Wow. Images like that one of the abbey are ***almost*** enough to make you fantasize about the cloistered life... Just curious, do you guys know of any monasteries in that part of France that have been converted into modern lodgings? Two memorable places I've slept in or visited: the Hotel Růže in Český Krumlov in South Bohemia (Czech Republic), and the Hotel Monasterio de San Pedro de Villanueva in Cangas de Onís, Asturias (northern Spain). A very rich and distinctive kind of experience that you just don't get in a commercial hotel.

Thanks Max. Yes that's my photo. It's a beautiful place. I'll be back in that part of France next July. My daughter is getting married just north of there in the Drome Provencal.

I think you'll love Paris no matter what the weather. I do, anyway. Be prepared for possible cold and rain and you'll be fine, as Max said. It's still a great city for walking around. Enjoy!!

Good advice, Carles. What kind of name is that, anyway?

I was there twice in the first week of December. It even snowed... Some days were cold and sunny and others humid and cold with that humidity that gets into your bones. But with good shoes, an umbrella, a good scarf and wool instead of cotton, it was great !

Katherine, that's a great post on the Senanque Abbey! Never been, but I've been in places like that that give you goosebumps, especially when the monks start to chant. Did you take the pics? I love the picture below:

Novembre à Paris?? Hmmm... Well, it can be beautiful... or it can rain... or it can be bone-chilling cold... Truth is you never know, any time i've been to Paris the weather seems to change 3x a day... But don't let that stop you, Paris is beautiful in any weather. Just be prepared clothingwise and you'll be fine.
