Illinois

Sure, it's home to big, brash Chicago, but there are a lot of lower-key historic and natural charms, too, including sites related to Abe Lincoln and Lewis and Clark (not to mention, more recently, Barack).

I grew up in southern Illinois - just about as far south as you can go before your drop off in the MIssissippi/Ohio river convergence. Check out the Alto Vineyards feed, the Shawnee National Forest, Bald Knob G=Cross and the Giant City State Park. It's home - there's no place more beautiful.

I lived most of my life in Joliet, so I'm pretty familiar with the surrounding Chicagoland area. Lots to see and do - food nightlife, art - I could go on and on.

Hmm, that's an interesting observation re Chicagoland nightlife, Tracey. Do you remember any details, like style of nightlife and/or club names?

Schaumburg and St. Charles are cool places to check out for nightlife in the Chicago burbs.
