Hi everybody! I have a TV interview coming up in NYC on Thursday and was wondering if anybody had any suggestions as to a funky/hot new hotel whose lobby would make a good backdrop. OR...some dramatic interior (anything from Temple of Dendur @ Metropolitan to M&M Store in Times Square). Thanks much!!!

New Skyscraper in Manhattan

Heads up, folks: "The City Council is to vote this week on whether to allow a developer to erect a 67-story tower that's only 34 feet lower than the 79-year-old Empire State Building, the city's tallest skyscraper." -AP

Mayor Bloomberg likes the idea, but there's lots of opposition because it would block other buildings' views of the ESB and change the classic Manhattan skyline. I'm not sure what to think. And you?

Ed, I didn't know we had hawks here. Falcons, yes, but they're smaller. Are you sure it was a hawk?

On another subject: Here in the Northeast U.S. we're experiencing a minor panic over a bedbug epidemic. To what extent will this prevent people from traveling and sleeping in hotels?

Tourists in Greenwich Village's Washington Square Park got a thrill late this afternoon when a huge hawk flew in for touchdown on a maple branch just above our heads. Bigger than anything they'd seen in Idaho. Conclusion: There's a lot of quality protein in pigeon meat. But did you know that NYC is such a good place for birders?

Peanuts? You got peanuts? All I got was pretzels. And speaking of LGA, which almost deserves a prize for managing to be both exceptionally dreary and prone to flight delays, this is one more reason why I'm surprised that the tourism biz is so healthy in NYC.

Ed, Delta will be rolling out the new food and wine establishments over the next year, which means the Delta LGA terminal will be a construction site until mid-2011. And Delta also announced they are upgrading their JFK terminal with a massive rebuild. Good to know the airlines are flush with cash from all the pillows and peanuts they sell us
