Washington DC

It's one of the world's most powerful cities, with fabulous museums, historic sites, culture, dining, shopping, & nightlife. Yet for all its high octane, DC still manages to exude a charming small-city (sometimes even small-town) feel. A travel must!

Anybody read Dan Brown's latest, The Lost Symbol? Just finished it, and literary quality aside (as usual, it's all rather overheated and mildly silly), the DC-travelogue aspect is really something. As I read in a recent piece on the subject, "you'll never look at the Washington Monument the same way again""!

Just heard about cool-sounding digs I'm going to try next time I'm in DC: the Morrison-Clark Historic Hotel & Restaurant, a pair of connected, antiques- and repro-crammed 1864 mansions. Centrally located near downtown, and with base rates starting at $99, plus a 10% discount for booking online. (1015 L St. NW; 800.332.7898; www.MorrisonClark.com).
