For those who love being on the water but not on humongous cruise ships, there are plenty of options across the seven seas (and lakes and rivers in between) -- many luxury but some surprisingly affordable.

See the Maine story on Tripatini's Official Blog, wherein Allan Kissam falls in love with a windjammer. FYI, he's looking into chartering a boat (something smaller, I suspect) in those waters. Have any advice?

Patricia, as I write this from my cell on Rikers Island....

Ed, good for you. NY Harbor will make a sailor of you. Sounds like it was a blast.

A few weeks ago I managed not to make the 6:00 evening news after a sailing adventure in New York Harbor.

The Southern Sierra Nevadas. Kern River, rafting, giant sequoias and more. I makes an interesting side trip from Bakerfield, California, but Kernville is also a destination in its own right. The trip report is now online at The World on Wheels:

I'm not a fan of the all-gambling, all-partying atmosphere of Vegas. I do like a little of each but want something more. Here's a report from a more laid-back locale on the river that hits the spot, Laughlin. The hottest (128 deg.) trip we've ever done. Hop on the boat and come along at The World on Wheels:

I grew up sailing on Lake Michigan. I then did some long deliveries from Venezuela to Puerto Rico, Bahamas to US, BVI to New England... I am now land locked high in the Andes Mountains.

I love the sea and the wind in my hair and know sailing like the back of my hand.

We have dreams of buying a boat and being live aboard cruisers traveling around the world.
