HI everyone. Although I am a Blackberry Bold user, cannot LIVE without the keyboard, I have a new iPod Touch that I use for TV shows on the plane and apps. This way it's much less likely I won't run out of batteries on either device. : ) Nice to meet you!

In reply to Wendy, we have an app for iPhone and iPod Touch (iTunes: ChicWalks) and are currently testing for other SmartPhone platforms. Personally, and after testing so many different phones, I still don't see any other phone that matches the iPhone; couldn't live without it! I use my apps constantly, in everyday life and for travel purposes. Very easy to use, stylish and powerful.

There was an interesting piece yesterday on MSNBC.com on the effect of smartphone/iPhone translators on the travel experience called "Have Smartphones Licked the Language Barrier?" and asking the question, "Does too much technology make conversation, translation a dull game?"

Any thoughts/experiences?

Very helpful piece today from the AP's Frtiz Faerber on how to deal with your iPhone when traveling overseas. You can check out the full article here, but here are a couple of tips. (Me, what I've been doing is switching on flight mode and buying a cheap cell phone with enough talk time to last me the trip -- usually works out much cheaper than roaming!)

>Go to "Settings," then "General" and then "Network." Here you can shut off "Data Roaming" so you won't feast on high-priced data but can still make phone calls.

>In your e-mail settings, turn off the "Fetch" option so you won't automatically download e-mail. Do so under "Settings," then "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" and "Fetch New Data."



>The cheapest international data plan is the $24.99 Global Add-On plan, which gives you 20 megabytes of data at $1.25 per megabyte. That compares to nearly $20 per megabyte if you don't have an international plan. There are other options going up in price and amount of data available.

Howdy all, I need to get a new Smartphone, and I love the look and feel of the iPhone. A few of my friends who have one have a few unkind things to say about it tho. What's the best all-around smartphone out there right now, besides the iPhone? I'd love your opinion, as I never really trust salesmen not to have a hidden agenda! Thanks for your help!!

Just heard about a cool new series of guide apps being launched by the site www.Area-Daily.com. The first Area Guide covers California's Napa and Sonoma wine country, and besides serving up an "insider-y" perspective on where to sleep, eat, drink and play, it's got live links to up-to-the-minute info plus booking utilities. You can also print it out from your computer. By the end of the year that will be followed up with New York, Los Angeles, and Miami, then Boston and San Francisco in 2010.
