Ethiopia has so much to offer visitors: the Historic Route, covering the ancient town of Axum, with its amazing carved obelisks, Christian festivals and relics, including the Ark of the Covenant; Gondar, with its castles and palaces; Lalibela, with its remarkable rock-hewn churches: Negash, one of the earliest holy Muslim centres from the Prophet Mohammed Era with the NegashAmedinMesgid; the walled Muslim city of Harar and LegaOda, near Dire Dawa where you can see cave paintings considered to be thousands of years old.

Lake Tana, source of the Blue Nile, is the largest lake with 37 islands and the Monasteries like KibranGebriel and Kidanemhiret dating back to 14th century. The Great Rift Valley lakes, many with national parks, are home to a wealth of bird and animal life. The high, rugged, Simien Mountains in the north and the Bale mountains in the southeast are also home to some unique wildlife and rich flora, and are ideal for trekking, whilst some of Ethiopia’s fast-flowing rivers are becoming famous for white-water rafting. There are eleven national parks and four sanctuaries where 277 species of wildlife and more than 850 species of birds can be seen. The Semien Mountains National Park is registered by UNESCO as a world heritage site and is home to three of the endemic mammals, Walia Ibex, Gelada Baboon and Abyssinian Wolf. Ras Dashen, the fourth highest peak in Africa with an alititude of 4,620 meters, is also located within the National Park.

Other National Parks include Bale Mountains and Abijatta-Shalla in Oromia, Nechisar, Mago and Omo National Parks in the south and Yangudi Rasa in Afar, Gambella National Park in Gambella, as well as Awash in both Oromia and Afar Regions. Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s friendly and safe capital city has so much to offer, too, with its first-class hotels and restaurants, museums and palaces, and good shopping, which includes the Mercato – Africa’s largest open-air market. Ethiopia is a mosaic of people with more than 80 languages, different lifestyles, costumes and cultural dances.
Among the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela, Bete Giorgis (the house of Saint George) is found southwest of the village on a rocky ground. The temple is cross-shaped, perhaps the most attractive structure of Lalibela’s rock-hewn churches. When Lalibela had finished constructing the churches, Saint George riding on his white horse revealed himself to Lalibela to tell him that there was no temple in his name. Taking George’s word, Lalibela went to this rocky field and constructed this amazing temple. So the priests of the church say.

The only way to this blessed place is an underground passageway. Entering the compound of the church, one would see many small caves in the walls of the compound. The inner parts of the caves are crammed with bones and skeletons of humans. Both in its design and carving there is no church which equal in quality to Bete Giorgis. And the reason for its incredible beauty, say the priests, was because Saint George himself looked after the construction daily. They even will show you the prints of the hoofs of George’s horse on the ground. Or even tell you the horse riding competition that had taken place between Lalibela and Saint George

.

The church is built in the shape of a cross. The floor, which is designed to have a shape of the cross, has a special carving on it. The entrance of the church compound is the gate to on the west side, but the biggest entrance is found to the east. Bete Giorgis when viewed from the top, appears like a huge cross with no room inside. When the name Lalibela is mentioned, the first picture that comes to most people's minds is Bete Giorgis. Even those who have never been to Wollo, Ethiopia know Bete Giorgis for its image is used on postcards, calendars, T-shirts and many advertisements.

Once you have seen it both from outside and in, you will have no doubt that there is quite a relationship between the interior and exterior of this church.

Shortly put, it has taken Lalibela, with the help of angels, 23 years to finish building all the churches. The very reason for these churches to have been built was that people were dying on their way to Jerusalem every year. Some run out of food, others lost their way and some were attacked by beasts, on their way to Jerusalem. And it usually would have taken several months of tiresome travel to reach there. For these reasons, Lalibela felt that he must build the ‘the second Jerusalem’ in Ethiopia.

Tourists of any part of the world open their mouths in amazement when they first see these incredible churches. There are many untold beauties of these buildings. Better is for anyone to come and see and leave the judgement for the heart.
5 Top Reasons to Visit Ethiopiatag:frugalnomads.ning.com,2014-04-05:3169359:BlogPost:3761972014-04-05T13:19:32.000ZAmran Ethiopia Tour and Travelhttps://frugalnomads.ning.com/profile/AmranEthiopiaTourandTravel

1. The People: The people of this old realm are a mixture of above 80 ethnic groups speaking above 70 different languages; they don’t seem so though, for they understand each other in almost every aspect of their lives. To appreciate what diversity and living in peace with all the difference anyone might have, Ethiopia is the best choice. Having three thousand years of experience the people of this land has come to be unusually very kind for strangers and travellers. Once you are in their land their treatment would make you feel as if you are almost home. The lives of these people of innocent hearts will trigger your soul to look for a place among them. You, certainly, would be amazed of their social life; how they speak to each other; how they eat together. These well-mannered people live just a plane ticket away from your home.

2. Their History: Ethiopians are not a nation of hundreds of years of history as most of the world’s countries are. Owning their own calendar, rather, they have a 3000 thousand years of existence. Remnants of the oldest kingdoms are living witnesses for these words of ours. The Axumite Kingdom that had been ruling across the Red Sea in to the Arab world has left its huge fingerprints on the exceptionally massive obelisks of Axum. The Zagwe Kingdom, on the other hand, has left us the miraculous Lalibela Church, made out of a single stone. A country that had been ruled by Kings and Queens, these days has a Prime minister. But, the history of these great kingdoms has been reserved, so that the world can see the last 3000 years.

3. The Landscape– Africa’s forth highest point is on the tops of Ras Dashen Mountain with beautiful volcanic range of gagged peaks. The Great Rift Valley and Afar Depression are the very sights that your eyes would, undoubtedly, fall in love with. Here, you will travel from the highest peak of the continent to the deepest depression.

The Rivers: (The Liquid Miracles) the Blue Nile River, its source being in one of Ethiopia’s biggest lake,Lake Tana flows crossing Sudan and ends in Egypt. This river contributes 2/3 of the Nile which is the longest river in the world. Many people of the olden times of Europe had travelled following it until they reached the source of this liquid miracle.Tekeze, Shebele, Jubba, Atbarah/The Black Nile are few of the rivers that you would be dreaming of drinking.

5. Their Culture: Ethiopians own a culture that has been growing ever since history itself begun to be present. Unlike the other African nations, Ethiopians were able to protect their country from the European colonizers which helped them in keeping their culture from the exposure of becoming a mixture of another. Every ethnic group has its own unique way of dealing with life which usually gives a shock for many of the travellers whose luck has made his destination to be Ethiopia. If you are a person of curiosity to see what such genuine culture looks like Ethiopia must be your choice.
The Sanctified Seats: The Monastery of Ethiopia's Mount Damotag:frugalnomads.ning.com,2014-03-14:3169359:BlogPost:3711932014-03-14T14:25:22.000ZAmran Ethiopia Tour and Travelhttps://frugalnomads.ning.com/profile/AmranEthiopiaTourandTravel

All grounds that received a drop of the holy blood were chosen to be sanctified and blessed places to establish churches on them and made them their holy seats. So Ethiopian Orthodox Church history recounts.

The following writings are to give histories and descriptions about the churches and monasteries scattered all over Ethiopia. Read those words of ours while you prepare your luggage to fly here!

Debre Damo:The Incredible Monastery

Climbing with rope like driving with a seat belt

Your visit to this amazing church will not only require you to put your seat belt and drive there but also to get ready to climb by a side of mountain with rope in your waist. This will not only be unforgettable but one that will come to be a great breakthrough in your entire visits to all the churches that you had been to so far and those you are about to.

The hermit, after he had chosen Mount Damo for his extended prayers, begun to lament for he had no means of climbing to the top. ‘Had I been a bird I could have flown or at least if I had some rope…’ so were his thoughts. This did not last long thoughas Angel Michael approached the zealous hermit and spoke, ‘Don’t be afraid for you are given the authority. Take some rest and the Lord God will send you a snake rather than a rope that will deliver you to the uppermost of the mountain.’ All at once a snake of about 30 meters length appeared and took the hermit by its tail while Michael the Angel protected the him so the serpent would not dare to attack him.On his arrival at the top of the mountain the hermit, Abune Aregawi, praised his God saying, ‘Hallelujah’. This was the beginning to the astounding monastery established at Mount Damo, in Tigray, Ethiopia.

Today, in the example of that serpent, a thick rope is wiggling down the side of the mountain serving visitors and believers as the only means of passage to the church at the top. This rope has been there over so many years; not changed or repaired. Millions of people had climbed on it and even more sheep and oxen have been taken up by this same old rope.

If you want to climb, another rope will be send to you from the top that you have to fasten over your waist, and then you have to hold the one made in the example of the serpent so that you can help the person pulling you up. Your climb is estimated from 24-to-30 meters. This includes only the distance until the climb is finished; not the overall height of the mountain.

Women are completely forbidden to enter the monastery. Animals of female sex are also forbidden except for hens. It was and is only the mother of Abune Aregawi that had been to this monastery after her death following many years of fasting and prayer at the foot of the mountain. She was buried there.

Atsie/King Gebre Meskel had built stairs that led to the monastery before the rope had come to use. All the materials to build the Church had been transported on these stairs. Once the construction was done, however, Saint Aregawi did not want the stairs to stay on service. And he spoke to Atsie Gebre Meskel, ‘Dahmimo’ meaning ‘destroy it’. Through time the word was shaped and reshaped to Damo.

Reaching at the top you will see spacious green field. One Church, over 150 ponds, and three villages of the hermits are all on this space. The church was built in the 6th century after the birth of Christ by Atsie Gebre Meskel.

Every hermit in the monastery has his own one prayer room, one saloon and one kitchen with a spring as though the onesin the modern world with tap water. Lines of thin ditches are interlinked passing water for those hermits who do not have springs in their kitchen. And for those who do not use water neither from the springs nor from the ditches, three wells, one for drink; one for the animals in the monastery and one for washing clothes and home duty are available in an average position for all the three villages.

In August 1989, the hermits had heard a huge blast and run to where the explosion had went. Reaching the store where many priceless things had been kept they saw the striking event: fire burning all over the store. They could not extinguish the furnace though tried hard. Many relics and invaluable books were turned to ashes by the fire.

Your visit to this historic monastery will be finished here and you will have to fasten your waist by that same old rope to climb down. Then drive to the other miracles awaiting you a few miles away.

Menelik had no objection and he had the most important object in the world. However, some people say he had stolen it.

Some historians contend that the relationship between the father and the son was so strong that the father passed the relic to his son. His father had also provided him with numerous books of wisdom that he brought them all with the ‘Treasure’.

The wisdom of the father had been revealed in the land of the son. He came to be the first king to start the so called ‘Solomonic Dynasty’ that lasted for about 700 years until the last of 1972.

His empire had come to be known by its extensive trade activities that had been stretched as far to the land of Arabia and India.

This empire of his had gone well for1500years in which time, for some reasons, it begun to decline losing its power and provinces.

Even though such an empire of great power and wisdom lost its kingdoms, it contributed so much for the one we have today.

In the time of this empire there were a lot of worship kinds and rituals going.

The Moon god, on whom they had strong faith in making them able to draw the sun light by the top of a curved metallic stick in order to use the energy on other things that they may need for, was the most important one.

What is astonishing yet is not just having 3000 thousand years of history but a history that is full of incredible legends and mysteries. Beginning with the legend that springs from the Palace of King Solomon, Ethiopian history is one no one has so far been able to measure its width and height in full. You just can have a sip from the sea by coming here, however.

Northern Ethiopia

Your travel to the Northern Ethiopia is more of exciting exploration than mere visit. Behind every remnant descended from the people lived 3000 years ago, mysteries are buried that today’s archaeologists couldn’t dig out wholly. Axum’s famous obelisks and the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela are two of the beauties that your eyes would bulge out from their sockets for. The medieval Castles of Gondar also known as Africa’s Camelot are still homes for the souls of the kings and queens of the past. Fly to Northern Ethiopia and see how the present and the past live together in harmony.

Southern Ethiopia

Unlike the Northern part of the nation, the people in south are not that reach in terms of remnants of old constructions but a living culture that strikes the very existence of the self. Natural beauties are main reasons for many tourists to revisit Southern Ethiopia. Mursi, Karo and Hamar tribes of the South will help you recognize what difference was born between the modern life and the natural one. A few days of stay among these people will help you renew your entire life.

Tiya stela e field is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for their attractive and mysterious pillars. Bale Mountains National Park gives you the opportunity to see many of the bizarre animals unknown to the world. Supreme Mountain hiking; horse trekking and scenic driving are few of the activities you will take great pleasure from.

Erta’ale

Located in the Danakil Depression of Northern Afar, Erta’ale is one of the spectacular and unique places where you can see the earth ‘roasting’ itself. You probably have imagined lake of fire but no doubt you haven’t seen one unless of course you have not been to Afar – Ethiopia.

Erta’ale is the most active isolated shield volcano in Ethiopia famed for its long-standing lava lake activity. For at least the last 90 years this volcano has been active which makes it the longest-known historic eruptions. Be on your way to Erta’ale now to load some pictures of this miracle both in your brain and camera memories.

Hearing the words of a man that travelled around the world Saba and her servant went to see the wise king and his amazing deeds. After the visit from Israel and the wise king of the land – Solomon both conceived a child and gave birth back in Ethiopia.

They are back – the Queen and her servant, carrying brother babies in their wombs. Two decades passed since the brothers were born of their mothers. And now, as it should have been, they wanted to know who their father was.

The Queen of Sheba, the mother of her son Menelik, sent them both to their father far in the East. And they set out in search of their wise father.

Now the brothers reached their father’s palace and the gate keeper let them in. Solomon loved to play little tricks always and now hearing their arrival he placed himself among his servants and left the throne and the crown for one of his servants.

Zagwe, born of the King and the servant of Queen Sheba entered first and bowed to the ‘forged king’. Menelik followed him and walking in to the room he looked every corner of the chamber and recognized his father who was standing among the servants.

Solomon demonstrated how he was very proud of his sons with royal welcome and distinguished hospitality. The wise king taught his sons of his wisdom; shared them his knowledge; and showed them how they should keep and respect their identity and religion.

Two years passed for the father loved his children and the sons their father.

Now the high priests and the authorities rebuked the king for he was spending more time with his beloved sons than he should and forgotten his duties.

The king had nothing to say except one thing – they all had to give first-born of their children to accompany his sons and help them to preach the word of God. They all agreed and sent them with the visitors following a great farewell.

Among those first-borns was a man who was the son of the guardian of The Ark of the Covenant. And he had made the spitting image of the original Ark and replaced the first with the second.

On their way back home, this man exposed his crime to Menelik and convinced him that it was the right thing for him to do for the Ark, if it was not willing to be taken away, it could have killed him right at the moment of his first encounter.

We feel today’s lesson is quite shocking for it is the part where you just discovered the truth about the ‘Lost Ark’. Better for you to know that the truth is this that Ethiopia is where the story of the Ark melted in to.

Lesson Fifth

Revision

Menelik the 1st had brought the Ark of the Covenant and then established the so called Solomonic Dynasty. This great empire had gone well for the coming 1500 years. What happened afterwards?

TODAY’S LESSON

Saba ruled for 31 years and died. Her son King Menelik, on the other hand ruled for 25 years. After the death of King Menelik for centuries his blood line continued to rule the kingdom until the birth of Jesus Christ.

Christ was born in the time of king Bazzin. Following the kingdom of Bazzin was the regency of Queen Hindeke (34-42 AD). Because of a province she owned in the land of Gaza a eunuch servant of hers had been sent to Jerusalem from Axum.

On his mission in Jerusalem the eunuch had met Apostle Philip. Philip preached to him the Gospel of Jesus Christ and baptized him with water. He then brought the news of Christianity in to Axum.

He was not that successful in bringing the palace in to Christianity at once though.

The special thing about this is that Ethiopia was the first and only land from Africa to have heard of Christianity.

Hundreds of years later in 330 AD in the regency of Abrha and Atsbha two brothers called Freminatos and Sidrakos of Greece had come to Axum for commercial purpose. But they, after their parents were killed by a warrior, came to be servants in the palace.

After years of service Freminatos requested to be allowed to bring a pope that might teach Christianity for the rulers and the people from the land of Alexandria.

But Freminatos himself had been given the papacy and established Christianity in the palace of Axum. That was how my forefathers came to be Christians.

The Nine Saints. They were from the land of Rome. Escalating Christianity was the very purpose they had come for.

Traveling through every village of the land they had taught the mysteries of Christianity. As a result, they have come to be much respected among the Orthodox Church of present day.

Churches are named in the memory of their names; days are assigned for their honours.

Revision

The Queen of Sheba ruled the great nation. Christianity came to the country and the Nine Saints spread the Gospel throughout the land. The Nine Saints had got great respect and love by the people and the royal family.

According to the old scriptures inherited the land of Yemen, for one hundred years, (450-550) had been governed by rulers of Axum. King Caleb, after many successful years of regency left his palace and kingship end entered a monastery.

His son King GebereMeskel had been a mighty warrior that he regained his power in Yemen after it was taken by the people of Persians.

Succeeding King GebreMeskel 28 consecutive kings ruled the land of Axum. In 845 AD in the reign of King Anbassa Wudm a vicious Jewish women called Yodit (Judith) in alliance with the Northern Bete Israelites (people believed to have been descended from the first-born children who had once been appointed to accompany the first Solomonic dynasty ruler – king Menelik and his brother Zagwe from the servant of his mother Queen Makeda/ the Queen of Sheba) declared war against the Axumite kingdom and destroyed the Churches and many of the monuments.

She looked for everyone who had the blood of Solomon in every nook and cranny of the nation and killed them all. For this reason she was named as ‘Gudit’ or ‘Esato’ (the trouble maker or the fire) which in Amharic has the sense of being dangerous and cruel.

Leaving his palace in Axum the king ran away and escaped to Shewa for the lady was irresistible. She destroyed the kingdom of Axum and ruled for the next 40 years of her life and died. She gave a 40 years pause to the Solomonic dynasty.

After she had died Anbassa Wudm, the run-away king, got back to his throne in Axum and reigned for 20 years and his son Dilnaod for 10 years.

Enemies were emerging against the kingdom born of Solomon’s blood. Islamic power and Zagwe’s bloodline were the two dominant. Evolving in 600 AD Islam had come to be very powerful in Asia and most of the Northern Africa.

There is no crystal clear thing as this: that history of every part of the world begins with legends. Some we can find written in books and some came down to our generation by oral. The history of this nation – Ethiopia starts with a legend that we would not have the nerve to say ‘you shall know what we speak is true’. Later, in the history, however, all we speak we know, are true for we have brought them from nowhere but credible sources.

In the beginning was such a legend

Aksumawi was the son of Ethiopis and the great-grandson of Noah;he established the kingdom of Axum.

A length of 170 cubits snake took power in Axum and ruled for four hundred years. It had teeth a whole cubit long and the people of Axum had constantly to supply it with virgins on holidays and a goat each day.

A stranger came, his gorgeous daughter with him. The stranger was called Angabos. He killed the monster. But, a deal was made between the stranger Angabos and the King of Axum that the king would let Angabos’ daughter to be queen of the Axumite Kingdom. On this deal, however, was one precondition by the king that Saba, Angabos’ daughter shall stay virgin lifelong or she would lose the throne.

Angabos died after few years and Saba wanted to become Queen of Axum which both the king and his families denied. Saba mourned and cried bitterly and a drop of her tear raised that mighty snake alive.

Fear and terror come to those false hearted leaders of the land. They had to beg her on their knees. They promised her she would get whatever she needed if she would listen to their cries and kill the snake once and for all.

She had to kill the snake with the sword Angabos had given her. While doing so, a droplet from the snake’s blood touched her foot. Instantly, it changed in to donkey hoof. It did not prevent her from becoming a great queen, however.

Today’s lesson ends here…we couldn’t imagine your surprise on hearing such a legend.

Lesson Second

On our first lesson we have had that amazing legend left hanging near to its climax. Well, we are happy to RIVISE it.

RI-VISION

Angabos, a stranger in Axum and the father of Saba appeared in the Land of Axum and destroyed the monstrous snake that troubled the people of Axum for years. And his daughter Saba becomes a Queen of Axumite kingdom as per the agreement Angabos made with the King of Axum.

Queen Saba ruled many years over Axum and stayed virgin.

Saba also known as Makeda had a very close friend and servant. No secret, it was said, had ever been kept untold between the two.

Once a merchant returned to Axum and he gave the queen prolonged descriptions and explanations about the people of the land he had been to and most importantly about the Wise King Solomon of Israel.

He told them interesting stories about the king and his unusual practises. He told her that the king sleeps while his eyes are open and when he is awake he closes his eyes but he can see. Stories of such kind inspired her to leave to Isarael.

Carrying so many offerings Queen of Sheba (Saba) and her friend-like servant took their journey to Israel. Protocol guardian of the palace opened the gate of the compound so that they may enter. As her leg touched the door frame of the gate that donkey hoof torn away from Saba’s foot.

Solomon wanted to sleep with Saba at the very moment he looked at her but she refused when he told her. A ‘Great Conspiracy’ between the King and his cook was made early that night. After having their pleasing dinner with the king they had so much wine. At mid-night they could not resist their thirst for the dinner they had had high amount of salt.

The water pot was no longer where it should have been for Solomon intentionally placed it in his own bedroom. Looking for the water pot both Saba and her servant were caught in his room and had to sleep with him that night.

He said to her, ‘you have stolen my water and I have caught you at once. What do you have that is worth a glass of water than what I asked you by day?’ She had no answer for his question and he slept with her.

We don’t have Santa Claus here. We never saw him in the streets carrying big sacks and presenting Christmas gifts for our kids. We never saw the snow falling down on our roofs or on the ground. It doesn’t matter though. We have our own Christmas; a Christmas on which we share big smiles that you wouldn’t see the rest of the year afterward. Let’s just flip through few pages of the Good Book and see how we came to own our own Christmas.

YegenaChewata (the game on Gena)

Carry the clubs and set out to the field for waiting you is the ancient game Gena! Here we have a very interesting story on how we came to have the game.

On the days of Herod, according to the books we were able to consult during the preparation of this writing, the Wise men who travelled in search of Jesus the Son were not just three. There were twelve tribes each with 100, 000 people. But, on their way they had to fight with ‘armenewoch’ destroying 9 of the tribes. Only three of them were able to survive the battle and keep their journey. Mantusimar, Bedidasphar and Melku were the names of the three leaders of the tribes. The Bible knows them as the Wise Men.

Now, as they cross his land Herod met the wise men. He asked them what they were in search of. Innocent in heart, they told him that they were looking for the king that had been prophesied to be born on those days. Herod asked of them again that they would tell him where the child was born on their way back home. They agreed. On the journey to Bethlehem Herod sent a spy named Roor. He was supposed to go with the wise men to Bethlehem and bring the news of Jesus’ whereabouts to Herod so that he could go there and kill the child for prophesy said that he was the king of Israel.

A star in the sky served the wise men as a guide. But after they met Herod the star was difficult to be seen. This happening vexed the wise men that they cast a lot amongst the leaders of the tribes. It fell on the tribe lead by Melku where the secret agent Roor was brought in to.

The stranger was found to be the cause for the disappearance of the guiding star. They cut off his head and played with it hitting and passing it amongst them.

Now, the angel of God appeared in the wise men’s dream and told them to change their route when they went back. They listened to the Angle of the Lord and went back to their land without telling anything about the Child’s whereabouts to Herod. He was so wrathful that he sent soldiers to the land of Bethlehem and slaughtered all the children under two years old.

As a memory for this happening a game called Yegena Chewata has been played by Ethiopians since Christianity was introduced. The game is played with a stick much like a golf club and a little wooden ball named after the spy – Roor.

YegenaChewata in the olden times of the nation grants a special democracy. It was the rare occasion where a slave and his owner play with equal status. As the saying goes,

’Be GenaChewata

AyekotumGeta’

The literal meaning of which is that on the game of Gena the servant’s owner no matter what happened would not get angry at anyone.

Condemning the addicted ones and preaching the negative impacts of this technology would not help anyone to keep away from it or even use it properly. I can see there is quite a reason for us to get addicted to it. But, I want my readers be prepared to face the truth before I tell them why they get addicted to Facebook. Anyone looking for rationality in this writing shall not go to the next paragraphs. Better he/she just quit reading and sign in to Facebook! I know am never good in cracking jokes! Never mind anyway.

I admit that quite many may the causes of such addiction be. But there is one we all never noticed or noticed it very well but preferred to deny it. It is something big hidden deep into the unseen parts of our personality. It is what we fight against every now and then. Oh! Why don’t I just go for it? We are all (addicted users) big-headed. Does the word sound unfamiliar to you? All right this: conceited, egotist. May your mercy be on me now!

First time you login to face book your eyes look for ‘likes, requests or comments’ why? It is because you are excessively concerned about yourself. ‘How many people ‘liked’ my post or my photo; hey seven people requested to be my friends…somebody comments on my status’ All these trivial ‘my thoughts’ are what you experience on Facebook. Zuckerberg and his friends (he is the creator of Facebook by the way, his full name Mark Zuckurberg) have smart understanding of human psychology. Have you ever recognized the sentence structures Facebook uses? Example, Mr Max wants to be friends with you in Facebook.I know you won’t be requested to be a friend of somebody in your school, office or any place; or at least so I thought. You just happened to be friends with people in the real world. On Facebook though, the thing is different; you get a request from some person who ‘wants to be your friend’ and you can ‘accept’ or ‘cancel’ friendship which is made so easy only for a click on the mouse. It makes you feel proud as if you are the important one. Sounds irrational, doesn’t it? But take it from me, it is true.

Uploading unimportant photos that you take moments back with your cell phone and writing how you feel, what you did or going to do every now and then is no more than a desire of letting the conceited personality in you promote itself. I am not trying to sound educated but, Encarta dictionary defines ‘conceited person’ as ‘somebody with an exaggerated sense of his or her importance, especially somebody who tends to speak or write about himself or herself excessively.

Facebook is the best outlet for that conceited personality of yours that you don’t usually dare to display in the ‘non-facebooked’ world. I mean in school, office, market or else.

We all want to be famous and admired. Unfortunately, the world is only ready to admire you when you get things done. Meanwhile, Facebook came to existence. It lets you be seen on everycomputer screens of the worldfor your nonsense posts. Face it. Face the truth that you let your ego out on Facebook till it gets you addicted to it.

Well, all I am trying to say is just better you be aware of the ‘why’ when you login to the blue magnet, Facebook.

Wait; wait, however, after saying all these words I want you to know that I am perfectly aware of the virtues of it too! After all it is the first-rate social network we have ever been lucky to have!
5 More Top Reasons to Visit Ethiopiatag:frugalnomads.ning.com,2012-02-16:3169359:BlogPost:3761982012-02-16T18:07:39.000ZAmran Ethiopia Tour and Travelhttps://frugalnomads.ning.com/profile/AmranEthiopiaTourandTravel

6. Lost Ark of the Covenant: You must have seen the movie ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ starring Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones. It must have your sensations arisen.Graham Hancock, Philip Marsden and Richard Pankhurst are few of the prominent writers and travellers of our times. Their researches and extensive journeys enabled them to explore to where that ‘most important object in the world’ – The Ark, has been disappeared. Some people say it is just a legend, the people of Ethiopia, instead, believe that the Ark is not lost; it is among them, hidden in one of the Tana islands. As a proof, every Orthodox Church of Ethiopia has its own Tabot – a similar object to the original one. How could it be? Well, why don’t you come and see and listen to the whole story yourself?

7. The Animals: You, probably, have been residing in one of the most beautiful and modern cities of the world. Now, it is time for you to have a little change for a little while. Where should you be travelling then? Ethiopia. Those first animals of the Paradise, named by Adam himself are still alive, though only here. You will have the blessing to watch gelada baboon, Walia Ibex and Simien Jackal - unique creatures to Ethiopia dancing only in the Ras Dashen Mountainous areas.

8. The Air– These days it is obvious that we are breathing in to our lungsnot just what is necessary for our body but a mixture of poisoning chemicals coming out of massive factories. The streets of the world’s cities are becoming very crowded of vehicles and people rushing to work all over the day and again rushing to home for rest. You must have already felt that you will need to be out of this system for a little while and breath ‘the true Oxygen.’ The highlands of Ethiopia are waiting for you so that you may breathe from the fresh air that is moving over mountains and lakes. You would simply stop those chemicals entering your lung and breathe what is natural which obviously would make you live longer.

9. The Air Way: Did you feel that you have missed something great in your life? Don’t worry; the plane is waiting for you just outside your door. Ethiopian airlines is not only the best air way in Africa but also competitive in the world. Wherever you are it just does not matter for there is no place in the globe that the Ethiopian Airlines don’t make flight to and from. All you need to do is just packing your things. The rest is our job.

Who "invented" music St. Yared or Mozart?

Born and raised in Ethiopia, Saint Yared is the foremost composer of Ethiopian Orthodox Church song melodies. Yared was born on April 25, 505 A.D. in the city of Aksum (Axum). His father was named Adam and his mother Tauklia.Qine. A very high, elaborate, cryptic, complex form of Ge’ez poetry is credited to Saint Yared of Ethiopia. It is usually rich in religious, historical and legendary allusions. Nevertheless, Yared’s place in Ethiopian culture is what it is on account of his being the most subtle, most spiritually uplifting, and most euphonic composer of both the hymns and the chants that accompany them. He further established the order of their service by time of day and day of year, by the occasion of the feast and by its import, by the character of the religious season and by its dominant theme and mood. The all-inclusive account of his melodies is called Deggua.

The three basics melodies by which Yared’s hymns are sung are Ge’ez, Izl andAraray. Symbolism is basic to the entirety of Yared’s system and each melody symbolizes the person of the Trinity: Ge’ez the Father, Izl the Son and Araray the Holy Spirit. For the inexpert or the inexperienced, the differences between the three melodies aredifficult to detect. For the experts, it's simpler, although even they admit that it is a little tricky when asked to describe the differences.

Yared and the Inspiring Insect

One inspiring anecdote is most often told of this great personality. Yared’s father had died when he was a little boy and his uncle Gideon had to take care of the child. Yared, once he'd fled from his home for Gideon his uncle kept punishing him for his idleness. Yared as a child was not smart enough to learn his church teachings fast. His uncle Gideon was very disappointed of this sluggish personality of the child. So Yared fled from home.

Heading nowhere in particular, he became very tired. Seeing one green tree from afar, he walked over to the tree and rested himself under it. While his eyes were getting shut for he was sleepy by now, he saw a little insect floundering over the trunk of the tree. It was not that easy for the insect, though. Stumbling but struggling, the insect kept falling back to the earth and restarting its hopeless climb. It never gave up. It all went on like this for six times. Yared, by now was awakened; his body had forgotten its tiresome day. His eyes never blinking, he stared on the insect following every movement. Eventually, the insect succeeded reaching to the top of the tree where the mushrooms it fed on were great in amount. At the seventh trial it becomes triumphant. Yared went back to his home for he understood that he never should have given up and he will never so. He learned all the church teachings from then with great enthusiasm. And, eventually, he was able to create the everlasting melodies.

The introduction of Christianity into Ethiopia dates back to the apostolic era. The book of Acts, chapter 8:27 – 38, tell us that Saint Philip, the Apostle baptized the Ethiopian Eunuch – treasure of Candace Queen of Ethiopia. When he returned to Ethiopia, he spread the good news of the Gospel. When Christianity was accepted as a state religion during the reign of Ezana, the Axumite king of Ethiopia in the 4th century, there was no resistance and bloodshed as happened in some other countries; they were welcomed. These Saints established schools and monastic orders which still exist. They also translated the Testament from Greek, Hebrew and Syrian into Ge’ez language, which the church still uses.

The Ethiopian Orthodox Church has remained at the very heart of the Ethiopian civilization, history, religion and culture from the time of its establishment. It has been the creator of religious arts, crafts and literature as well as secular and theological institutions and their curricular. The country owns even its calendar to the church.

Ethiopia has a long and proud history of hospitality. Traditionally, as Ethiopian does not boast of his home as the saying goes, ‘a home is for a guest’. This kind of treatment was awarded to every guest regardless of religion, colour, sex, and race. Once a stranger arrives in a village, he/she is treated like a true friend almost by everyone.

The Great Castle of Fasil: A living example of the dead ark of Noah

We hope that there exist at least some who are ready to conceive what we are about to tell by now – the incredible Castle of Fasil.

And God said to Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me, for the earth is full of violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

It just does not matter whether you are a Muslim or a Christian or else. You must have heard of the story of Noah who saved the world from the mighty flood by building the great arkfor many years. But do you know where Noah and his wife ended up? To your surprise, Gondar, Ethiopia is the exact spot where both of them died and buried after years of stay. His beloved wife was buried in Chilga whose capital was named after her name ‘Ayikel’.A tree of great size stands over her grave. Even these days’ people of Qemant do their prayers there.

We are of no doubt that if you can get the opportunity to visit that ark which Noah made with his hands, you would not hesitate to sell your house and put the money on it. (Exaggerated?) Well, at least you would go to the bank to borrow some if you have not enough.

In Gondar is the ark built with stones and limestone instead of woods. The castle was built by King Fasilides to be a living example of the ark of Noah by which the species of the world recommenced. Being aware of this, when you arrive at the palace and put your feet in the compound you must experience the feeling of rushing to great ark in the time of disaster in which the only way out was the ark and the ark only.

Now we describe the interior of the palace.

The designs of this palace, as told in the previous parts, were made after Noah’s saving ark. The ground room is the example to the chamber in which great animals were hidden in the ark. To the north is the apartment in which Noah’s sons were. To the south is his daughters’ and in between is his and his wife’s room.

Now, you shall come and see it yourself for the rest is indescribable.
