<p>Growth in supply, broadening distribution channels and brands targeting specific market segments are all covered in the eighth edition of the award-winning Global Serviced Apartments Industry Report (GSAIR), published by The Apartment Service.</p>
<p>The new GSAIR estimates that worldwide serviced apartment supply has increased by 14.75% since 2018 to 1,174,012, rising to 1,254,743 including corporate housing units.</p>
<p>The number of locations served by serviced apartments globally has increased by 17.5% to 15,464, although the rate of inventory growth has slowed from 23.7% to 14.7% in 2018 vs 2016.</p>
<p>Other subjects addressed in the new report include vacation rentals and home sharing; co-living and co-working developments; features on the trends driving the extended stay sector; data security and why serviced apartments are ideal for traveller well-being. The 2020/21 edition is the eighth published by The Apartment Service.</p>
<p>Once again, at the core of the report are the results of unique research amongst 6,000 corporates, 2,000 serviced apartment operators and 1,800 agents.</p>
<p>The GSAIR survey’s findings include:-</p>
<p>• Despite economic uncertainty, corporate use of serviced apartments and agency bookings continue to grow</p>
<p>• Business travel remains extended stay’s principal market but only one-third of corporates include serviced apartments in hotel RFPs.</p>
<p>• Corporates quantify the benefits of using serviced apartments by traveller/assignee preference, total cost of stay and rate.</p>
<p>• More than half of all bookings now being placed via an intermediary and self-booking tools being the fastest growing distribution channel</p>
<p>• Cost, price/quality comparison and location are corporates’ key factors in choosing serviced apartment over hotels.</p>

These areas, such as outside London in the Home Counties, the Thames Valley and Midlands, typically had little or no other offerings at the time. Currently the company operates RSA both in the UK and also in Europe in Portugal and Spain which were added in 2008 and 2009. “We started <b>Roomspace Serviced Apartments</b> in 1996 to provide viable solutions for one month plus and for month by month stays because the requests were there but the product wasn’t. We covered over 40 UK locations by the middle of 2007, but expansion plans however were put on hold when the global financial crisis set in,” says Charles McCrow, “We are now firmly back on track with our growth targets and will have at least two more European countries to add RSA to this year as well as more UK locations. These RSA properties not only help us to focus our activities in the local markets we open in, but they also crystallise and reinforce relationships with our established European network partners, most of whom are longstanding ones, to deliver our accommodation solutions on a bespoke basis. These partners are actively involved and partnering with us to achieve our European RSA expansion plans as well” </p>
<p>In 2008, the Apartment Service commissioned and produced the first truly <b>Global Serviced Apartment Industry Report</b> (GSAIR) to high industry acclaim and it was updated in 2010. “The first report looked at the questions everyone was asking about the sector, such as what are the different types of product, what size is it, where is it operating and who are the players” says The Apartment Service’s Bard Vos, the main researcher for the report. “Our second report looked more closely at the regional differences and gave updated reports on how the sectors were growing there and shed some light on the effects the financial meltdown was having and comments on the local prospects in view of this.”</p>
<p>The third edition of GSAIR is planned for distribution in late 2011 will cover the many changes that the sector has undergone during the recession. It will also highlight the trends and opportunities in the new economy.</p>

Many agents just do not have the expertise or capacity required to achieve this “</p>

The Apartment Service is pleased to announce the publication of the second Global Serviced Apartment Industry Report. This edition is an update to the report published in September 2008.<br />

“…In comparison with our last report, the total number of serviced apartments has grown considerably. The number of serviced apartments shows an increase of 11.2%, whilst the corporate housing total has risen by 53.7%. The total apartment listings worldwide, compared to 2008 have grown by 15.9% to 523,922…”<br />
<br />
Under the spotlight in the GSAIR 2010, are the major challenges facing the serviced apartment sector around the world in light of the recent economic 2 year downturn and how this has affected the sector in 6 key regions.<br />
<br />
The report, which asked over 3,000 operators to contribute, looks at the commercial and structural changes in the sector in these regions, the problems that apartment operators face and the solutions they are developing to grow this sector profitably.<br />
<br />
The conclusion of the report is that the serviced apartment sector, as a whole, is optimistic about the future.<br />
<br />
Serviced apartments are becoming more and more an essential part of the ’thinking process’ on how SME and large corporate clients handle their staff accommodation requirements and this includes Hotel Booking Agents and Travel Management Companies.<br />
