How Social Travel has defined my life

I was born in Belfast Northern Ireland, but my earliest memories as a child are from a lake cabin in Minnesota. When we moved to Louisiana, it meant we would pack up our family Ford Econoline van with suitcases, and drive across the country. Looking back on my childhood, most of my family stories came not from my home, but… Continue

How climate change is affecting West Africa

The Copenhagen talks on climate change were suspended on Tuesday due to a walk out by the African union. Tensions rose because the African delegates feel that the Kyoto Protocol is being undermined by the richest developed countries. The Kyoto Protocol gives poorer countries different goals to richer countries in terms of carbon emission reduction, allowing them a better chance to develop. The proposed ‘all on the same level’ stance risks undermining… Continue

Traveling Your Conscience

I promise not to step up on a soapbox here, but, if you're a traveler or travel professional, I've been wondering how you handle traveling to places that have political or policy environments that go against your conscience. Brutal political regimes where human rights are a rare commodity are perhaps the most obvious examples, but what about states, provinces, etc. in your own country that have enacted laws or policies that go against your values.

For example, I suspect many of you… Continue

$35 for two nightclub entries and two free drinks only today! http://bit.ly/5SBYGs

This is a pretty cool site. Groupon.com does wholesaling in a sense, yet allows for individuals to get in on it. Collective buying power, so to speak. Today they're helping promote us at Uncle Sam's New York and it's an amazing deal at $35 for two drinks and two entries into manhattan's most exclusive nightclubs. It's usually a $75 ticket, so over 50% off just today.

Check it out:

Living the dream Italy Vacation.....

Relais La Suvera

La Suvera was a dream. The hotel goes back to the High Middle Ages as the Castle of the County of Siena ruled by the legendary Countess Ava Matilde dé Franzesi, a relation of the King of France Clovis, also known as the Queen of Montemaggio. It is therefore likely that the ancient name La Suvera derives from the French "Souveraine", meaning Sovereign.

The hotel, which is part of a museum, has grounds and gardens that are remarkable. To describe them is… Continue
