10 Days Cultural Adventures and Masai Mara Tours

Day 1: Nairobi – Kisumu ( Port Victoria)

After breakfast, depart Nairobi via the breathtaking views of the great rift valley trough, to Kit - Mikayi via the third largest town in Kenya, Kisumu arriving early in the afternoon for lunch, then proceed to explore this legendary stone of the Luo community of western Kenya. You will be surprised to reveal some of the deepest secrets behind this 60 meters tall tor, and why the Legion Maria sect followers come here for prayers and fasting. Dinner and Overnight in a budget hotel in Kisumu.

Day 2: Kit Mikayi – Ndere Islands National Park

Wake up for an early morning breakfast then depart Kisumu for Kaloka beach, one of the most famous beaches along the shores of Lake Victoria, as you walk down the lake you can chat with the ever friendly local people, most of whom are fishermen, or general fishmongers. Arrive at the beach at around 9.00 am and then continue to Ndere Island by boat. Explore in search of large crocodiles, impalas and Sitatunga antelopes, a wide variety of different species of birdlife. The word “Ndere”: the meeting place according to the Luo legendary, is the place where “Mikayi” the first wife of the Luo tribe rested after her long journey down the Nile valley. As the sun cools down, proceed for a fishing adventure with the local fishermen. Dinner and overnight at Kaloka beach.

Day 3: Kaloka – Kisumu - Wagusu

After breakfast leave for Kisumu by lake or by road , arriving in time for early lunch, then proceed to Wagusu village, arriving in the evening for dinner and overnight in traditional Luo homestead.

Day 4: Wagusu locality

Try staying up late at night or waking up at dawn time to chance encountering wizzards in the village(optional) or wake up for breakfast in the morning and visit one of the local witch doctors( pre-arranged at extra cost). In the afternoon,visit One of the scarce luo elders for the tales of the origin and cultures of the luo tribes. Dinner and overnight in Wagusu village.

Day 5: Wagusu - Abimbo

Visit an adjacent village to see witness a popular local pilgrimage church for followers of the Legio Maria sect who believe in fasting for several weeks at a time and cleanse the sick with a special crystal clear water from a sacred pond/rock. Their mass services go for long hours and if you would like to take part in their prayer then prepare to leave late afternoon.Dinner and overnight in Abimbo or Wagusu.

Day 6: Abimbo/Wagusu

Spend the whole day taking part in different practical activities with the locals and even interacting with them as this would give you more chances of getting more information from them. Try manual cow milking, or hire a boat and go fishing, visit local brewing homes and ask them how they acquired their skills through apprenticeship. Dinner and overnight in Wagusu.

Day 7: Wagusu - Nairobi

After breakfast, leave Wagusu for Nairobi arriving in the evening for dinner and overnight in Nairobi budget hotel on bb basis.

Day 8: Nairobi/Mara

Pick up from your hotel in Nairobi at 8.00 am and head southward to the viewpoint of the Great Rift Valley. Continue to Narok a small Masaai town then to Masaai Mara for lunch followed by afternoon game viewing to see the many animals that inhabit this unique park return to the camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 9: Masaai Mara

After breakfast spend full day game drives, explore Masai mara with amazingly high concentration of game. This game reserve is Kenya's finest wildlife sanctuary including migrants, well over 450 species of animals have been recorded here although July, August and September are the months when the Mara plains are filled with migrating wildebeest and zebra, there is also resident wildlife year round. The famous Maasai tribesmen live within the dispersal area of the game reserve lunch is serve in the park return to the camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 10: Masaai Mara/Nairobi

An early morning game drive in Masai Mara followed by late breakfast at the campsite and a departure to Nairobi stopping sporadically for the breathtaking panoramic views of the rift valley and adjacent landforms. The tour ends in Nairobi late in the afternoon
