Hi Michael,
Thanks for the quick response. This helps and I'll read your blog. Name and title for attribution is good. I always like to give credit. The more we help each other, the better off we all are. I'll go back on your blog. You have to do that on mine too.

I like the culinarily too. Spell check doesn't like it--but I really don't care. Those that appreciate all types of food like it.

Culinarily yours, Maralyn

Hi Maralyn! That was quick! Thank you very much for getting in touch.

Let me double check with some friends... Things vary from Hong Kong to Taiwan to mainland China. And within China, from north to south, east to west. In Hong Kong they used to favour French cognac for celebrations, but there has been a trend in recent years toward fine wines... Actually, I did a whole string of articles on pairing fine wines with Chinese cuisine on my blog... In mainland China and Taiwan they tend to favour Chinese "wines," which are usually made from grains. And they are VERY high in alcoholic content. (I put "wines' in quotes because the Chinese character for "wine" is really a genertic term for alcoholic beverages and is frequently mistranslated.) Anyway, I will check to see if there are any particular drinks for that particular occasion.

If you're intersted in regional Chinese cuisines and matching them with fine wines, you might enjoy some of my earlier posts. Unfortunately, I don't have the technical skills yet to do trees. My blog has just been up two months... So you have to scroll down ...

Regional Membership DIrector sounds interesting.

I'll get back to you when I've got an answer to your question. Do you want a name and title you can attribute this to?

Culinarily ... I LIKE that!!!

Hello Michael. Welcome to the IFWTWA group on Tripatini. We look forward to your questions and comments. When you have the opportunity, you may want to check out www.ifwtwa.org. After reading your bio, you seem to be well-connected in SE Asia. If you every want to help us arrange a press trip to that area, please let me know. Also, I know our Board Member and Global Membership Chairman is always looking for new members who are willing to be Regional Membership Directors.

I'm currently working on a story about Chinese New Year. Are there any drinks in particular they serve for that celebration? Thanks in advance if you have an answer.
Culinarily yours, Maralyn

Greetings, Michael, and welcome to Tripatini! It's great to have you with us -- and we think you'll find our site productive as well as interesting and enjoyable.

To get the most out of Tripatini, you may want to take a moment to join several of our many groups which you may find of particular interest, such as Media Only, Hong Kong, China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Portugal, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, Eating/Drinking the World, our Chinese and Portuguese language/culture clubs, and plenty of others covering many other topics and most destinations across the globe.

FYI, on your profile you'll see a green bar marked "Text Box," which you can turn into a box containing not just text but also photos and even videos about yourself, your travels, your writing/outlets, and more.

Finally, if you would, please be so kind as to spread the word among your travel-interested friends, family, colleagues, associates, and audience. It's fast and easy to use our "INVITE" function above left on the navigation bar to enter e-mails (even your whole list at once!). If you have the opportunity to cover Tripatini in any of your outlets, that would of course be great, and if you might be interested in occasionally blogging for us, guidelines/rates are available upon request.

Thanks much for joining us; we wish you a great rest of the holiday season and an outstanding start to 2010, and of course we look forward to seeing you online.

Cheers!
