Hi -- I'm just looking for a fairly basic overview of London to get us started. My son is 9, particularly interested in politics, kings and queens, beheadings (which means tour must include the Tower of London), that sort of thing. I guess a tour that's half a day? and then we can go back ourselves and do stuff. Any tours that stand out in your minds? Thanks so much!

There are some really wonderful places to visit with the London Pass - it has over 55 of London's top attractions and gives you the ability to "jump the queue" (just like a fast pass at Disney). You get a fabulous guide book with your purchase and you can go online with their interactive map to plan your visit. The Hampton Court Palace offers live re-enactments with Henry VIII and Westminster Abbey (where the future King of England is to be married in April) was just added to the Pass. You can visit the Churchill War Museum, take the kids to the Queen's Ice and Bowl, the NAMCO gaming stop and the Tower Bridge Experience. Of course, there are a number of companies listed in the book and online that offer great tours: the Fat Tire Bicycle company for one.
Hope this helps!
Take him to the London Dungeon-its lots of fun! My kids loved riding the London Eye, watching the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, eating fish and chips-and checking out all the candy in the sweet shops.
Here are some things to do in London with kids:
this is great...I'm making up my list now!
