Prague: any must-dos?

Just returned from Prague. Beautiful city, lots to do from sightseeing to shopping to food. Castle Quarter where the Prague Castle is filled with galleries, monasteries and other attractions. Most of my time was spent just walking and exploring without any specific agenda, this allowed me to people watch and enjoy and appreciate the cultural differences/similarities.

It depends on how much time (how many days) you'll stay in Prague. Of course, the Hradcany Castle, Charles Bridge and Old town Square is a must. There are hardly any DOS. Prague is very rich in architecture, history, music and full of cultural activities. Public transportation is very dependable, safe and clean. Museums: Mucha Museum www.mucha.cz. Above suggestions are great - also make time to head up to Vysehrad, Prague's "second" castle, beautiful park and views, church and a cemetery full of famous Czechs. Also if you are into the ballet or opera, definitely see something at either the National Theatre, State Opera House or Estates Theatre. If you are into beer, check out the new Prague Beer Museum on Dlouha St. in the Old Town, 30 beers on tap!!! Not sure when you are coming, but the Christmas markets will open last weekend in November and most run through Jan.1. Have a super time!!!

Prague's charm lies in the experience of exploring it so the best thing you can do in Prague is just take a city walk. It enables you to explore each and every part and beautiful sightseeing of Prague.

Prague is the most beautiful city in the world, as far as I'm concerned. Walk across the Charles Bridge at night, after the tourists are gone. There's no place more atmospheric or romantic!

The Jewish Cemetery and the Old Synagogue are also very beautiful and interesting.

If you eat pork, the klobásy (sausages) served at kiosks on Wenceslas Square with rustic bread and mustard are a couple of steps short of heaven.

If you like music, try to go to the opera at the Estates Theater, where Mozart hung out.

Be at the Orloj (the huge astronomical clock on the Old Town Hall) on the hour so you can see the procession of allegorical figures and hear the bells.

Sit at one of the sidewalk cafés on the Old Town Square.

I could go on and on. Prague has so many "must-dos" that you need to spend at least three solid days there to appreciate it.

If you have time for excursions out of the city, try Tábor, a fairytale town with secret tunnels underneath built by the Hussites centuries ago; the castle at Konopiste, also south of the city; and a bit farther south, the perfectly beautiful town of Cesky Krumlov. You won't be sorry!

Take the tram. Rising around the city and to the end of the line and back gives you a good look at the city and surrounds layout. While I was on the tram I saw just how polite young people are - the young men stood up for me and gave me a seat - they are very respectful. Go in winter when the days are short. The advantage is that there's snow on the Charles Bridge and hardly any tourists around, and the cobble streets glisten like Klimt paintings. Summer sees thousands of people crawling all over thelace.

Aside from the other great suggestions already listed - U Fleku Brewery and restaurant for a great beer and dinner. Roast chicken or sausages.....yum! They have a really fun atmosphere where you can mingle with locals and other travellers in their inner "patio". They date back to 1499. Located @ Křemencova 11 , Praha 1
