Romantic honeymoon lodgings in Florence, Tuscany? (Our First Time)

My wife and I are honeymooning in Tuscany over the course of 6 days in mid-June.  We want an authentic experience especially when it comes to room and board.  Is there a place you would recommend that is romantic, in the center of things so we can go at it by walking or biking, and authentic to the beat of Tuscany, it's ambiance, food experience etc.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank in advance,

Noel.

Hi Noel,

I'm so glad! I know you will fall in love with Lucca!

If you are renting a car by chance, and want to surprise your new wife with a truly romantic dinner, there is an amazing restaurant in San Miniato that is a restaurant for 2 - yes, for just the two of you! It is called Peperino: http://www.tuscany-charming.it/tuscanyrestaurants/peperino-restaura... . If you want to have a regular meal, Peperino is the mini-version of Pepenero restaurant in San Miniato, just next door. FABULOUS food! Just another idea for you to consider.

Congratulations again and have a wonderful time!

Laura,
Thank you for so much. We have changed our plans and intending to stay in Lucca for a couple of days. Your advise and recommendations were very helpful... Thanks again.

Regards,
Noel.
A visit to Tuscany is all about visiting the various hill towns. They are located on the tops of hills, originally providing a great vantage point to keep a lookout for potential attackers. They are charming and quaint, each with their own special personality.

The downside to the hill towns, however, is that they're on the top of hills -- with beautiful countryside between them. If you're in great shape you could probably bike between a couple of them, but it's probably more realistic to have a car. With a car you can drive to the town, park, and then explore on foot.

For an authentic experience, I'd skip the hotels and opt for an agriturismo stay. Here's one of my favorites (http://www.lamontalla.com/Eng/Info.htm). It's located in the small village of Contignano (population under 300 people), and is situated among olive trees and grapevines. It's also moderately priced, returning great value. You can buy fruit, vegetables, and breads from the local market, fixing a little snack in your apartment. There is also an outdoor barbecue area if you want to cook (I usually don't) and a swimming pool (very unusual in this part of the country).

This type of experience takes you away from the city center (where you'll find most tourists) and puts you in the countryside with people who live and work there. It's my preferred way to be in Tuscany.

Enjoy your stay!
