Vancouver Island, BC has rich heritage, culture preserved with lots of museums, festivals, local events and lively entertainment round the year. Some of the attractions in Island are:

- Qualicum Beach
- Spider Lake Provincial Park
- Wreck Beach
- French Beach Provincial Park
- The Whale Centre Museum
- Hatley Park (Hatley Castle)
- Campbell River Museum & Archives
- Pacific Rim Whale Festival (Mid March to early April)
- Victoria Dragon Boat Festival (August)
- Victoria Fringe Festival (September)
- Victoria Classic Boat Festival (September)
- Llama Walks and Llama Hiking

Moreover, following things can also perform: Archipelago Wildlife Cruises-Ucluelet, Emerald Sea Adventures-Sidney, Seafun Safaris-Victoria, A Paddle in the Park Kayaking-Sidney

Hope this helps.

The list from Peter is good, except for one error and one omission. Wreck Beach is on the mainland in Vancouver, not on Vancouver Island. And someplace that I would highly recommend visiting on the Island is Milner Gardens & Woodland, an inspiring place with magnificent Douglas firs towering along its meandering walking paths. During the summer months, the wonderful gardens and tea room are open. The season for tours at Milner Gardens runs from April 1st through to Canadian Thanksgiving (the second weekend of October.) Located in the Parksville area (near Qualicum Beach) and well worth a visit.

And tell them not to miss the whale watching in Ucluelet. It's fabulous!
When I spent a lot of time on the west coast of Vancouver Island back in the 1970s, there was a beach just south of Wickaninnish that was frequented by "hippies", called Wreck Beach - long before anybody had heard of the nude beach of the same name at Vancouver.

I stand corrected! Had never heard of the Wreck Beach on Vanc Island. I wonder if it's still there (i.e. going by the same name) or whether they've renamed it because of the Wreck Beach in Vancouver.

Cheers, and may you always have an all-over tan.

The people who "developed" the Vancouver Island Wreck Beach (which was quite a driftwood-shack community) were forced to move on when Parks Canada took over the area in the years following the creation of Pacific Rim National Park in 1970. The same "group" were the orginal users of the Vancouver Wreck Beach, and most of us on both Wreck Beaches were from Greater Vancouver, so the name may have moved with the people (many of my memories from those days are quite hazy :) ). I should read the book ( http://www.amazon.ca/Wreck-Beach-Carellin-Brooks/dp/1554200318/ ) to see where the name of the Vancouver one came from.
