I will be putting together a piece for Taste & Travel, now in the U.S. as well as Canada with a "Tale of Two Cities" theme focused on Macau and Hong Kong.  While I will be getting some assistance from Macau's PR firm on restaurant tips (I have been there in 2007 and 2010 and will be revisiting my favorite museums but open to new places to eat), I am hoping to connect with Hong Kong-based experts and PR companies on recommendations for great must-do places for food and culture, from street food up to high end restaurants and amazing bars (I hope to do the fabled Peninsula Tea, unless there's something even better out there).  I want places that are unique, not only for great food, but real discoveries.

I did reach out to Tourism Hong Kong, but as they are focused on what's happening over there politically, I felt it may be better to reach out to locals. We are planning to go November 26-December 2, hoping all will be calm by that time. Otherwise, we will reschedule, and still keep the suggestions in mind for the trip we take down the road.

PS-I also will be pitching a similar story to the Jewish/Kosher press, so open to suggestions as well on that score.

Hi Elyse! Greetings from Hong Kong! I would recommend The Repulse Bay for afternoon tea rather than The Peninsula. The Repulse Bay is located on the southern side of Hong Kong Island. It is very colonial, not so crowded, and there are views of the South China Sea. It's managed by the same group so I would assume the actual food would be similar.  WOM (word of mouth) is a very comprehensive eating out guide, and the latest edition should be out shortly. They have a web site. The nice thing about this guide is that it is cross-referenced. The eating out scene in Macau has evolved quite a bit since you were here last. Old houses in Taipa Village are being renovated one by one. I was there about a year ago and ate at a wonderful Spanish restaurant called Casa de Tapas. I understand there is a Portuguese restaurant next door, but I haven't tried it yet.
