What unusual is going on with the annual wildebeest migration between Kenya's Masaai Mara and Tanzania's Serengeti? Find out in a recent post on the Tripatini blog.

Friend just called and we were talking outdoors. Told me a strange thing: this year the wildebeast migration was cut short. Instead of staying in the Masai Mara for three months, they're turning back to the Serengetti. Anyone know anything about this and why it's happening?

This would be a travesty. Humans are the most dangerous species on the planet - look how many we have killed off. Have there at least been studies done on how this would impact these animals? Having just recently seen this for myself in Kenya I was so thankful that there is still one place like this left on earth. It will be a sad day for the entire planet when that is gone.

Edward Lowassa, a former p.m. of Tanzania who's running for re-election, seems to want a "showdown with environmental and conservation groups" over the proposed road through the Serengeti.

According to eturbonews.com, "He vowed to team up with supporters of the road project to make sure the road was constructed irrespective of its impact on the migration patterns of the big wildebeest and zebra herds."

Is he crazy, or are we environmentalists too quick to root for animals rather than humans?
