I take the discounts when I can get 'em even though it grates. What grates even more is when they take my word for it - they could have the decency to ask for id! (it would at least make me feel better).

Have to agree with Donna, but also know how lucky we are to be blessed with good health! My age is a surprise to me - I'm 62 and hate saying it because I can hardly believe it and because it does peg you in some ways in peoples minds. Anyway, my first trip abroad is this week - Wales and Kenya here I come!

Hi Adriane,

One of my peeves is when the media confuses the term boomers and seniors. Most of us are not decrepit, don't wear Depends and are not ready for assisted living. The youngest boomer is 46, while the oldest clocks out at 64. While there are a number of boomers in that age segment who have health difficulties associated with aging, there's also a large number of us who still run businesses, travel the world and pursue adventure. However, as the boomers age, there's going to be a great need for travel designed with seniors in mind.

I am creating a report that will be sent to travel experts, architects, designers and hotels and more about boomer requirements for travel. See www.AgelessTraveler.com. I will cover everything from being able to see the menu, to traveling with an older parent, to politeness and anti-ageism of staff. I would welcome any pet peeves, any solutions, any good or poor experiences you can contribute. I am a New York Timeds Age Boom Fellow and also a consultant to hotels,CVBs etc. I think it is time that the industry prepared for boomer travelers. This report is as a result of an artilce BOOMER ROOMER I wrote for Hotel Design Magazine and a speaking presentation at Transform, this summer, a conference on universal design. I learned through my work that the industry is still not up to speed to welcome us, but they will listen.

It is not really a matter of age as much as being cautious and being cautious. It could happen to anybody and it could happen anywhere. The advantage is in having the right people to guide you as you go to foreign destinations. As a tour operator a large part of our clientele are of the ages of 55 and above and several over 70 and we have taken them to destinations like Mongolia, Central Asia, Middle East, parts of Africa, etc. Over 32 years in tour operations we have not had any major accident - touch wood.
