New ‘Hyper’ Guide Shows Europe Bursting With Hostels: More than 1000 Hostels in Northern Europe Alone

Los Angeles, October 24, 2013--“1000 Hostels: Britain & North Europe Hyper Guide (Backpackers and Flashpackers),” (ISBN 978-0988490574 paperback and 978-1940866000 e-book, Hypertravel Books) by Hardie Karges, is available now at www.amazon.com and elsewhere online.  “1000 Hostels” is the most comprehensive hostel guide ever compiled to date, encompassing the old youth hostel movement and the modern phenomenal spread of backpackers’ hostels around the globe as well.  As with previous editions in the “Backpackers & Flashpackers: Guide to World Hostels” series, it’s aimed at any and all independent travelers, not just backpackers, since many backpackers have now upgraded to “flashpackers,” a more modern and tech-savvy version of the original concept.  It is, in fact, specifically geared toward advanced travelers who need none of the ‘how-to’ information intended for novices, but plenty of directory listings with complete specs and contact info, and lots of historical and geographical background info of all the places where hostels are found.

The British Isles and Germany are the historic heartland of the hostel movement,” Karges explains, “and they’re the heart of this book, too, with over 600 hostels between them.  And the Benelux countries and Scandinavia are no slouches, either.” But East Europe is the hottest travel destination in the world these days, and they’re full of hostels.  “They’re good ones, too,” Karges adds, “not just cheap backpacker digs.”  They range from the dozens of the most modern ‘flash-packers’ hostels in the urban centers of Budapest and Berlin to remote wilderness hostels in Ireland and surfers’ camps in Sweden.  Sound good?  Are you afraid that maybe you’re too old for a hostel?  Don’t worry; most hostels have no age restrictions. And they all have English-speaking staff and internet capabilities.  Most even have kitchens.  Some even have bars.  All have cool people as guests.

Author Karges has traveled to approximately one hundred fifty countries over the course of forty years, much of it described in intimate detail and vivid prose in his narrative travel book, “Hypertravel: 100 Countries in 2 Years.” This is the fifth book of the ‘Backpackers and Flashpackers’ series, after previous versions for Eastern and Western Europe, Australia, and North America.   “A happy accident of these books is that it suggests a new paradigm for travel guides, one that I would use—just the facts, and just the best places,” says Karges.  After all, these books are at their best when used in advance, to facilitate a hostel-based trip.  If there aren’t any hostels there, then a place just may not be worth visiting.

Hypertravel Books is a newly formed imprint in Los   Angeles, CA, with the mission to promote smart travel.  Advise if you would like to see a PDF or paperback copy of the book for review purposes.  Advance copies of the manuscript for the next edition—“1100 Hostels in South Europe”—are also available.
