Tourism in Bhutan – The first official tourist to Bhutan were a group of American’s led by Lars Eric Lindblad of Lindblad travels, New York, after the royal coronation in 1974. Thereafter, the Bhutan Tourism Corporation was responsible for all the tourist operations until it was privatized in 1991. Since its inception, the development of the tourism industry is consistently guided by its policy of “HIGH VALUE, LOW VOLUME”, in an effort to ensure the preservation of Bhutan’s environment, culture and values.
