Chinese Language/Sinic Culture - 中文交谈俱乐部

你会说中文吗?

The language and ancient culture of China includes not just the world's most enormous country but spreads across various countries of Asia - and increasingly, well beyond. Here we explore all aspects of that culture.

Here, too, is your spot for asking questions, finding resources, and/or just hanging out & chatting in Chinese (mostly Mandarin, but Cantonese and others welcome, too!).

Hi, Scott, thanks for the suggestion re ChineseTeachers.com. We've added it above!

谢谢Scott! 关于那个chineseteachers.com我觉得我们应该用英文说明,对不对?要不然不会说中文的人一定不知道这是什么东西! 谢谢!

By the way, http://www.nciku.com/ has a handy online Chinese-English dictionary, permitting input by typing or handwriting (using your mouse). It's not the best dictionary I've ever seen, but it's not bad at all, and because it's online, it's very convenient.

Of course, that makes sense! I had the meaning right, but was thinking too literally. Obviously "add oil" means "work harder," "grease the wheels," etc. 谢谢你,柯老师!

It's a common exhortation to work harder. Often (but not only) used with regard to academic or athletic endeavors; for example, audiences regularly shout "XX 加油!", XX being the name of their favorite athlete or team.

"加油!" "Add oil?" Hmm, my Chinese must be rustier than I thought!

沒關係, 像我的德文一樣! 語言就是這樣,多年累積的基礎一閑置不用就不見了!
不過,只要多接觸一下就很容易恢復. 加油!
