Costa Rica

It's truly remarkable how much this small Central American country packs in, from shimmering beaches to live volcanoes to mysterious cloud forests. Despite pockets of overdevelopment, it's still an eco-tourism wonder. As they say in CR, "pura vida!"

Thankfully Hurricane Tomas dosen't not seem to have his affects over Costa Rica anymore, we had some sun today in Jaco and almost no rain at all! Lets hope it stays like this so we can dry out a bit!

Some great eco/history/culture in Central Valley area around San José. For example, see this week's Tripatini blog post on Atenas (Alajuela).

Costa Rica sweeps three categories in the Conde Nast Traveler World Savers Awards!

Nature Air, the domestic carbon neutral airline received best over all in the airline category, while Cayuga Sustainable Hospitality took all the categories for small hotel chains, and Pacuare Lodge was recognized in the boutique hotel category.

Lots of deals to Costa Rica right now. Never been there, but once the weather turns and we're back under gray New England skies, I'm ready. http://www.visitcostarica.com/

Check out the fine blog post from Bret Love of Green Global Travel about teaching his daughter (and himself) about conservation in Tortuguero and Sarapiquí.

I just came back from Monteverde. There is a portion of main road -that goes from San Jose to Guanacaste- close. There is no way you can get to Monteverde, Guanacaste, Nicoya or Liberia from San Jose on the route #1.
Ways to make it is by domestic flight or driving through Arenal Volcano.

My boyfriend spent part of his childhood in Costa Rica - his fondest memories are of that country, I think. He wants to go back, he wants to show it to me. He went back a few years ago and could not believe how much it has changed. I hope to see it before it becomes too modernized.
