Though not technically the southernmost point of the South American continent, the Cabo de Hornos in Chile's Tierra del Fuego have for centuries been a legendary landmark in world sailing lore (perhaps more accurately, notorious, as a tempestuous "graveyard of sailors"). These days, most shipping goes through the Panama Canal instead, so rounding the Horn is most often an undertaking of pleasure or racing yacht - or in our case, a cruise from Buenos Aires down into the Beagle Channel and Strait of Magellan.
