Cruising can be one of the most value-friendly vacations going. But how the heck do you choose from all the choices out there? Here are some resources (including non-traditional cruising, like freighters) and feedback.

John, a number of the Miami- and Fort Lauderdale-based ships I wrote about in this week's blog about cruise deals are visiting the western Caribbean, which, as often as not, means the east coast of Mexico. Several ships head that way from Tampa, too. Ships based in California are visiting the west coast of Mexico, but I'll confess to being pretty ignorant about those routes. http://www.awesomeflorida.com/cruiselines.htm Post your question on the Ask a Travel Expert widget on the home page of Tripatini, and you'll probably get some authoritative info about the whole cruise-Mexico scene.

I would welcome news of any cruise/cruise lines stopping in Mexican ports.
Thanks! John

Names in the cruise news:
Reba McIEntire will christen NCL Epic when she debuts in New York City on July 2. A popular singer with many awards to her credit, she recently hosted the 45th Academy of Country Music awards. NCL Epic will also host the 34th annual Macy's July 4th Fireworks show.
And Carnival has named its new vessel the Carnival Breeze. The ship will be introduced in Europe in May 2011 and will be the third in the Carnival Dream class of vessel.

The International Food Wine & Travel Writers Association is in the process of lining up press trips for 2011. If you are interested in proposing your cruise line, please let me know.

The story appears to be a huge wave hit the ship. It is uncommon, but does happen. According to the Berlitz "Complete Guide to Cruising & Cruise Ships," the Louis line sails older ships on lease to other companies.

Have you heard about the passengers who were killed today on a cruise ship in the Mediterranean? How could this have happened on such a large craft? http://www.usatoday.com/travel/cruises/item.aspx?type=blog&ak=8...
