Street Art Lands In Rome With Space Invaders

By BuzzInRome

Unique trails in the collective space, new signs in the urban landscape, interventions suspended between visibility and anonymity and between real and virtual spaces, icons present in the collective memory and practices of the youngest generations. Invader offers a meaningful and original reading of contemporary culture.

Born in 1969 in Paris, Invader is one of the most important and original international street artists and has exhibited in many prestigious galleries and museums across the world. He is known above all for his public interventions inspired to the Arcade Game Space Invaders, created in 1978 in Japan.

In Rome, the anonymous artist revisits the urban space generating wonder and transforming daily routes into unique journeys. His works will be on display for his first Italian solo show “Roma 2010 and other curiosities” in the Wunderkammern exhibition space until December 21. The exhibition will present various aspect of his work: from the alias replicating the space invaders of Roma to works made with his original RubikCubism technique, by means of the coloured modules of the famous puzzle, re-presenting images extrapolated from the realm of art history or popular culture, along with specific installations and curiosities.
With the invasion of Rome occurred over the summer, the artist has finally added the Italian capital in the list of the more than forty cities he has invaded so far: from Katmandu to Bangkok, New York, Hong Kong, Los Angeles and above all Paris.

Wunderkammern is at 122-124, Via Gabrio Serbelloni. It is open from 5 pm to 8 pm, Monday to Thursday.

ROME PRIME EXHIBITION SEASON STARTS WITH VAN GOGH’S “TIMELESS COUNTRYSIDE, MODERN CITY” DISPLAY

by BuzzInRome

The time has come for the best art exhibitions here in Rome! October to January are usually the months with the top-notch displays of the year. Then, you have the February to June exhibits with fewer attendees because people start to flock the beach for their Spring weekends. For the summer months, July to September, even fewer spend their Sundays in the city. And what is the top art event on display now until early February? Van Gogh. Rome has some of the best art works in the world, but honestly, Rome hasn’t got many paintings by the Dutch master: a humble two, which are located in two separate museums! And the last Van Gogh collective exposition here was 22 years ago. So we suggest not to miss it!

The display showcases over 70 pieces by the Dutch artist, spanning over the entire range of his career, which can be found in the Vittoriano complex. Not only paintings, watercolours and drawings by Van Gogh will be on display, but also those of the artists that most inspired him, such as Rembrandt, Delacroix, Millet, Cezanne and Gauguin. Van Gogh’s artwork is explored through two themes: his love for rural life, contrasted with his fascination with urban developments. Van Gogh sees farm life as hard yet honest and timeless. While the city represents the contemporary experience setting, where manhood’s destiny was constantly changing, the ideal place to learn and improve. The exhibition runs until February 6 in 1, via San Pietro in Carcere. Opening hours: 9:30am-7:30pm Monday to Thursday, 9:30am-11:30 pm Friday and Saturday, 9:30am-8:30pm Sunday. Further information, art piece captions are in Italian, at www.comunicareorganizzando.it/mostre.asp?ID=189

Dear Route 66 Enthusiast:
My name is Kevin Wong and I am a professional travel and landscape photographer who lives in Joshua Tree, California. My business, Mojave Desert Excursions provides guided photo opportunity tours in and near the Mojave National Preserve and I often travel along Route 66 where it passes through the Mojave Desert.

This week, I launched a funding campaign on Kickstarter.com
for a photographic essay book on the lives and faces of those who live on or
near the segment of Route 66 that passes through the Mojave Desert (Ludlow,
Amboy, Cadiz, Chambless, Essex, Goffs and Needles). I will also interview those
that work on the road, the tourists that travel the road, and the passionate
people that preserve and promote Route 66. This project will cost $3,000 and it
was selected by Kickstarter for its project vision and for the quality of reward
gifts. Yes, as a pledge patron you will receive a reward gift for each level of
pledge! There are only 45 days open for this project, so don't delay...please
make a pledge now and send me on the road to record the lives and faces
on "Route 66 - the Mojave Experience". You can make a pledge of $1.00 or more by clicking here. If you find this project inspiring and worthy, please forward this post to your friends and networks. I am open to any and all recommendations and suggestions to this project.

You can follow the project on facebook: "Route 66 - the Mojave Experience"

Thank you,
Kevin Wong
