Karen: thanks for the tip - the trip is actually being sponsored by visitdublin (along with capital hotels and the merrion) but I'm looking for personal recommendations, the sort of stuff that you would gloat about doing to your friends after having been there.

I'm actually in the strange position of having stayed in Dublin for a month in the past and I've done many of the known cultural sights before so I'm looking for something really out of the ordinary!

Any ideas - you know where to tweet them: http://twitter.com/thetraveleditor

Michele: You might start by looking at this site.

it appears to have a lot of interesting things listed from soup to nuts.

Anyone know of any interesting cultural events happening in Dublin between 27th and 30th April?

If so, let me know about them by tweeting about them at http://twitter.com/thetraveleditor so I can pay them a visit on my up-coming TwitTrip!

As far as I am concerned, culture is everywhere. It may not be the greatest concert or exhibition - it can be a festival! It's a question of doing a modicum of research and traveling with open eyes.

Cultural events must surely be part of everyday life, not just a show for tourists.

For cultural events taking place in France:

and French isn't needed. Google is!

Istanbul absolutely blew me away years ago, and I'm really anxious to get back this year for the culture year.

In the meantime, last summer I was in both 2011 twin capitals, Turku, Finland and Tallinn, Estonia, and they will be treats, too -- very differently flavored, but treats indead.

While we are searching for exciting cultural events abroad, here, in Palm Beach, FL, the American International Fine Arts Fair proved huge success. This year was two times better than the last one.
