"FRESNO, Calif. (AP) -- Consumers of California wine easily can tell a red cabernet from a white chardonnay, and soon they will have a tool to determine whether it's green.

Winemakers and grape growers who forgo pesticides, sow cover crops, reduce waste and energy consumption, provide workers health insurance, and are mindful of their non-farming neighbors will be able to distinguish themselves as certifiably sustainable under a new third-party audit system announced Wednesday by the Wine Institute, a public policy advocacy group."

Hi everyone,

I am going to be traveling to Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Panama next month as the writer for Green Living Project's expedition to document sustainability-related projects in those countries. They are still working on finalizing the list of projects we will be visiting and have asked me to check in with my contacts for suggestions. Do any of you know of any interesting projects that GLP should look into visiting? Examples of past projects have included eco-lodges and other sustainable tourism projects, community development programs, conservation and environmental education projects, and so on.

If you have any ideas, please let me know as soon as possible so I can pass on the info to the GLP coordinator. As things currently stand, we are planning to be in Central America February 15-March 5.

We are very excited to be participating in the Go Green Expo in Los Angeles later this month. Hi, I am writing a feature on eco-hotels and need a total of five for my article. So far I am looking at La Luna in Grenada, Ace in Palm Springs, Dos Palmas in Palawan, Philippines...I would love suggestions on two more...hopefully one in Canada, as this is a Canadian pub. patricia.gajo@adventuramag.ca

Britain's new Air Passenger Duty Tax is being called a 'disaster for the Caribbean.' A family of four taking a holiday in the Caribbean will end up spending an extra GBP300 ($498) on taxes alone as a result, presumably to "offset aviation's carbon emissions."

My opinion: we must do everything in our power to protect the environment. But is this the best way? How do we know the British govt is really using the proceeds to plant saplings? And how do we balance the need to protect the planet, assuming this is a valid way, with the need to maintain a healthy tourism industry in impoverished nations and a healthy economy in general?

It's a tough one, I know. Any thoughts?
