Now there's talk of widening the shipping channel into Key West to accommodate more large cruise ships. Is this a good development or a bad thing?

There are, of course, two sides to every story and there will be arguments for and against. I'm sure the chamber of Commerce will welcome it but the residents will hate it. From my point of view, Key West is too crowded anyway now, a few more thousand people wandering around Duvall street won't kill the place, it's already dead in my book.
I agree with Tony King but, even for the Chamber of Commerce and the supposed economic benefit to the tourist-oriented stores there, why would they want to make the place so crowded that it would be impossible to even walk on it.  Bear in mind that most cruise tourists only venture to walk on Duval Street (six or seven blocks) and close-by places.  I like KW because I know my ways out of the crowd but as a tourist I would not go back after that experience
