Should gays boycott the Vatican? I mean, should
anyone who cares about decency and justice and protecting innocent children boycott and stop visiting the Vatican?
Don’t get me wrong: Most Catholics are fine, trusting people. And Christ’s message of love and forgiveness is not the problem. The problem is a Church hierarchy that for centuries has protected its clergy from legal prosecution for its heinous crimes against minors, enabling them to continue an unrepentant pattern of sexual abuse by transferring them to another parish… and even today, the Church continues to twist the truth grotesquely to deflect attention from the crimes it allows its clergy to perpetrate against the most vulnerable members of society.

The latest salvo: the "deputy pope," Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone (doesn’t he look fabulous in that gown?), who outrageously claimed this past week that "that there is a relationship between homosexuality and pedophilia" (as if, even if that were true, it somehow excused centuries of crimes against children and their cover-up by the Catholic church).
But no, Cardinal, the evidence is that there is a strong correlation between the PRIESTHOOD and pedophilia. Check your numbers. Seems most pedophiles in the news these days are Catholic priests. At least a third of them violate girls, and there are many, many more yet to be unmasked.
Haven't we had enough of this hypocrisy from the closet cases in the Vatican? I know Italian priests. I’ve visited an Italian seminary. And I can tell you, there’s some mighty good people there. But at the top, there’s also a powerful nest of self-hating queens trying to deflect attention from themselves… and no longer succeeding quite so completely.
So until the Pope and his merry band of Cardinals come clean about the Church’s role in the criminal cover-ups of grown men abusing little boys and girls, while simultaneously attacking gays and our rights in an act of sublime double-standards and hypocrisy, I personally plan to not set foot in the Vatican.
Will you?
