An island that's actually Greek territory's northwesternmost point, Corfu is considered the lushest of the Greek islands, and has ended up with the usual holiday-isle mix of tourism-saturated beach pockets (popular especially with Brits) balanced by bucolic landscapes and villages of its rugged interior. It's thought to be the ispiration for Prospero's island in Shakespeare's The Tempest,
