In school, U.S. kids still learn the patriotic poem connected to the battle of Concord and Lexington, Massachusetts that begins, “Listen, my children, and you shall hear, of the midnight ride of Paul Revere...” And on this long weekend of their country’s Independence Day, today, many of their families are taking the opportunity to explore their country’s founding by including in their holiday plans this and other of the sites of key events in its War of Independence from Great Britain – all of them preserved as national park sites; most of course in the 13 original colonies; and all east of the Mississippi River.
