Ed: It is good news. In the last few years many of the caribbean restaurants like Negril, Island Spice, Orchid went down under. I find the british caribbean cuisine quite interesting and diverse.

I'm pretty sure it is landmarked, which means a buyer can't change the outside. But it does need some -- er -- updating inside. The neighborhood is booming, so there's an economic incentive for somebody savvy and maybe even cool to buy it. Definitely a fixer-upper.

And here's reason #7890987589403: the Chelsea Hotel, where every painter and poet and rock star you can think of has stayed and, y'know, played. But now it's up for sale. Please don't change it: http://www.tripatini.com/profiles/blogs/chelsea-hotel-new-yorks?xg_...

This is reason #7890234789 why New York is different from other American cities.

A whole slew of the dives and old fashioned pubs closed down. Figaro was my favorite for double espresso, and a slice of cake. Actually, old fashion drinking in a pub aint the same anymore either. replaced with BudLite, plazma TV, and watered down mixed drinks. No darts, no pool table, no smoking, no jukebox. This list goes on..
