New Zealand

The other "land Down Under" is lots smaller than neighbor Australia yet packs in a boggling amount of beauty and adventure in its two main islands and many smaller ones -- along with Maori culture and the occasional touch of urban cosmopolitanism.

Today we received the following dispatch from Tripatini member Glenda Proko of Redcliffs, Christchurch:

"This earthquake has been a devastating and frightening experience!!
The magnitude was less but in our area the force felt 10 times the last earthquake!

When I remember back how the fish tank embedded in my wall but it blew out over the lounge room floor. The pizza oven and bricks on the side deck were scattered like confetti upside down over the path!

We have lost our house and still in a state of shock!
We are staying with my sister and are greateful to be alive!!

Life has taken on a new meaning and possessions no longer hold the same desire!
Human connection is so comforting - for sure!!

It seemed to carve a wrenching path through our suburb completely the opposite to last time
Lets pray its over!!

Love, Glenda"

We were in Christchurch a week ago and just cannot pry our eyes from the television. We can't believe this and offer our deepest condolences to all New Zealanders during this terrible disaster. We have been in the country since Christmas and feel a part of things here right now. Our thoughts are with you.

My deepest sympathy for ALL Kiwis, Clients, and friends from yesterday's Eathquake in Christchurch. God Bless. Our condolances directly to CHC.

The Kiwi's will rebuild and be stronger. This is such a wonderful country that invites the world to share in their warmth. The best thing that we can all do, is to help by promoting travel to NZ.

Tim here from the Baywick Inn in Nelson NZ at the top of the South Island

a great stopping off point before you start you trip down south .. We have lots to see and do here including the amazing Abel Tasman Park , where you can walk the trail, kayak or just enjoy the golden sand beaches

Welcome to the Baywick Inn, a heritage luxury Nelson bed and breakfast.

This 1885 elegantly restored Victorian bed and breakfast offers:

  • Two enchanting bedrooms
  • Genuine Kiwi/Canadian hospitality
  • fabulous gourmet breakfast

all for an affordable price.

New in 2010 is our ‘Victorian’ designed Cottage, using many of the ‘original Inn's’ features. It is located in the Brookside garden, just steps away from the main house. Here we have two very special, luxurious queen guest rooms, the Courtyard Suite and Brookview. Guests staying in the Cottage join us for gourmet breakfasts in the main dining room of the inn.

The Baywick Inn is located in a quiet garden setting along the Maitai River, and is only a 10 minute walk to the central city to some of Nelson's best restaurants and cafes as well as many artists studios, shops and other Nelson attractions.

It is only a short drive to visit local wineries and for day trips to Abel Tasman National Park.

Come and enjoy all that sunny Nelson has to offer and stay at the charming 4 Plus Star Qualmark rated Baywick Inn B&B Nelson.

Baywick Inn, Nelson, Nelson-Tasman Region

Over the years one of the major comments from guests is: "if only we had known there was this much to see and do in Nelson,we would have planned to stay longer."

To this end we have given you an idea of what to do for a 3 night/2 day stay in Nelson. Nelson makes a great 'base' in which to enjoy the whole Nelson/Tasman district and also it is only just over an hour to  Marlborough New Zealand's biggest wine region
