Entering service as a train station in 1900, Paris’ handsome Beaux-Arts Gare d’Orsay was out of commission by the 1970s. But since 1986 it's been leading a very distinguished second life indeed as one of Europe’s most beloved museums. The Musée d’Orsay specializes mostly (but not exclusively) in French art between 1848 and 1915, and includes some of the art world’s most famous names, such as Monet, van Gogh, Mondrian, Degas, Cezanne, Gauguin, and Renoir.
