Pennsylvania

One of America's most historic states, it ranges from the urban flair (and grit) of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh to the bucolic beauties of the Poconos, Dutch Country, and Bucks County. And for history, don't you dare miss Philly and Gettysburg!

I'm spending three days in Gettysburg. Yesterday I did a double-take when I saw General Grant in the coffee shop. Then, last night, at the haunted Dobbin House, dinner with Lincoln impersonator Jim Getty. Jeez, he's convincing. Do you think that maybe, just maybe...

It's the pilots of U.S. Air here in Philadelphia.

Which pilots? What airport?

Does everyone know that pilots are picketing our airport? I find that very frightening.

I know what you mean about raccoons. They don't just eat the garden; they'll eat the fence and, who knows, maybe your hoe.

Our coyotes mostly take down pet dogs and cats. Every now and again I find one in the yard and hear them outside almost nightly. We have a lot of deer too but they haven't done any damage to our garden yet. The possums and raccoons though? They eat anything and everything we grow.

I figured you had mountain lions there, Darryl. We have a lot of coyotes, too, but they'd never bring down a bear or, for that matter, a healthy deer (which is what I'd like them to bring down). I've mentioned the idea of reintroducing wolves to some of my neighbors, but they were not amused.

Mountain lions, yes. Wolves, no but we do have coyotes...lots of 'em.

Are there wolves or mountain lions where you are?

Sounds like a nice place. My backyard goes right up against the mountains, so we get a lot of critters too. No hunters, though. Too close to civilization
