Pennsylvania

One of America's most historic states, it ranges from the urban flair (and grit) of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh to the bucolic beauties of the Poconos, Dutch Country, and Bucks County. And for history, don't you dare miss Philly and Gettysburg!

That's for sure. Funny thing is, Darryl, every time I'm in town, they win. I'm the best thing to happen to them since Willie Stargell.

If they only had a team...(decent one, that is)

Boy, are you ever right. I've seen some of the top (and bottom) satdiums, too, and PNC is the best. Hell, the whole city is great, something I wouldn't have said a few decades a go.

But back to PNC: A few weeks ago, when I was in Steeltown (is that ever an outdated, misleading term) I made the mistake of sitting beyond first base, normally a good idea. But at PNC, if you can't get behind home plate, sit on the third base / left field side, so you get the fine view shown below in Darryl's photograph.

Our longest trip ever! The East Coast Odyssey continues on The World on Wheels as we pull into Pittsburgh. Baseball, Frank Lloyd Wright, and the spot of George Washington's first battle are on the agenda for this leg of the trip: http://tinyurl.com/22ufw7q

Just learned that the Hotel Fauchere in Milford is offering a $5, early-bird, comfort-food dinner entree Sunday-Thursday through July. And this is a stylishly updated historic hotel, al Relais & Chateaux. You going? http://bit.ly/Wt0Cj

Right on, Richard. I try to see the elk rut every year. Funny photo. And note to people who've never seen this: The male you're looking at is actually a small one; these guys can make deer look like terriers.

Thought I would share a photo we received from near Benezette. Elk watching is a lot of fun and sometimes you don't have to do much to find them :-). It is a great roadtrip and can be even more amazing in the fall - throw in the foliage and the "elk rut. Photo courtesy of Amy Gorman.
