Each year at the beginning of June, Inca communities in the area 60 miles south of Cuzco come together to weave a hanging bridge in the age-old Incan style. There is a perfectly serviceable modern bridge crossing the Apurimac River a stone’s throw away, but the tradition remains beloved today. Each community must contribute a length of rope and during construction weekend, a mayor takes attendance; failure to attend means a fine. And with incredible sunshine, laughter and a bit of beer, this is an event any visitor to Peru at that time should not miss....
