Very much an under-the-radar Spanish destination, far-west Extremadura is composed of the provinces of Badajoz and Cáceres. It's rich in ecotourism and outdoor sports possibilites, but also culture and history in cities like Mérida (which has a superb ancient Roman amphitheater), Badajoz, Cáceres, and Trujillo.
