A Tripatini member is wondering how recommendable these days is the Costa Brava for a vacation - and if so, where are the best spots to choose?  If you can shed light on this, please respond not here but at this link to our Ask A Travel Expert forum.  Gracias!

We have just received initial guidelines from the Spanish government reguarding minimum guaranteed service during the two one-day work stoppages by one of our pilots' unions; we still need to translate these guidelines into a list of specific flights that will or will not be affected, and are working to do that very quickly. In the meantime, you can get a better idea of how this strike will affect flights on short- medium- and long-haul routes at the following post on our blog:

Hi Richard,  I was in Alicante a couple of years ago.  Don't know where Calpe is.  There's a toll highway from Alicante to Madrid and it took us about four hours.  Nothing spectacularly beautiful.  There are trains from Alicante to Madrid.  Check www.renfe.com for itineraries and price.  You could fly but don't save time.  Alicante city is on the Mediterranean coast and attractive.  Great seafood.  Good fish or land paellas.  Nice local wines, including DO Alicante itself, Yecla and nearby Murcia.

Ola everyone !

I will be staying in Calpe, near Alicante quite soon, and would like to visit a friend in Madrid for a day or two.

I am interested to know the best way to travel to Madrid. Would I need to go from Alicante, or is there another way?

I would prefer to go by train for quickness, but am interested in any possible options. I'd very grateful if anyone has any info.

Best wishes,

Richard ( richsimmons333@hotmail.com )
