Just wanted to flag up my occasional blog at http://manchestermassages.blogspot.com/, offering real-life reviews of spas and massage therapists around Manchester, UK and further afield (when I get to them). It's mainly a hobby site but seems to be growing of its own accord...

I will be on assignment in Europe between May 10 and May 30 attending the Institute of Travel & Meetings Annual Conference at Chelsea FC, Stamford Bridge, London, England (May12 & 13) and the IMEX 2010 Incentive Travel, Meetings & Events Exhibition in Frankfurt, Germany (May 25, 26 & 27). I am looking to fill my schedule in the time between these two events (May 14-24) covering a number of business travel; meetings, incentives, conventions & events topics. I already have some tentative plans in Liverpool, London, Paris and Frankfurt – if anyone has any assignment suggestions or “must see” recommendations related to business travel or meetings, incentives, conventions & events topics please let me know…

One of the most memorable spa experiences I've ever had: the King's Chamber in Marienbad, Czech Republic. I'm sure prices have gone up since my bubbly soak, but it's well worth the splurge. I wrote about it in Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel:

"Today I am king--for 40 minutes, anyway, soaking under frescoed ceilings in the very tub that once held England's Edward VII. Gas bubbles dance in the warm spring water, soothing my skin (and, I'm told, lowering my blood pressure) as I doze off, happy as a clam: this regal indulgence, this rococo chamber worthy of a museum, is mine for all of 20 bucks. Welcome to Marienbad (Marianske Lazne in the tongue-twisting local language), one of three-dozen Czech spa towns where a day of Old World pampering, medical treatments, and three hearty meals can cost as little as 1,750 Czech crowns ($50) per person per day in low season (generally October through April)--less than a standard hotel room in most of western Europe (in high season, prices run from $71 to $95, still a decent deal if you don't mind the crowds).

Just noticed an ad in today's Miami Herald for the upcoming "Miami Spa Month" (www.MiamiSpaMonth.com) in July. Not a bad notion, to take the idea of "restaurant month" and transfer it to spas -- and this is the second year they've done it, so I guess it must've worked out well enough in '08. The bottom line is that you can get a $99 treatment at 27 très fancy and pricey spas like the ones at the Mandarin Oriental, the Delano, the Ritz-Carltons, Setai, and so forth.

Interesting item I came across on the good-value spa at the Riviera Resort and Spa in Palm Springs, on a Web site out in Santa Barbara, CA, TheDailySound.com:
