Thanx, for having me...
Fyi here is a bit about my travel history

If you have a couple of minutes, below is my bio.

Dear Fellow Traveler,
I often talk to people about my world travels and how travel changed my life. Having been born in beautiful Santorini, Greece, and enlightened in the culturally diverse wonderland of San Francisco, I sometimes feel like the luckiest guy in the world. But it was my travels beyond these places that inspired me to create TicketPlanet.com. In 1979, at 19 years of age, I set off from Greece on a big Europe "stomp". Traveling by car, train, and bus - - by any cheap way imaginable - - I backpacked my way around the continent. I slept on army bases in Germany. I ran with the bulls in Spain and I came through major car accident in France unscathed. These and other adventures of that Euro-trip left me with a wanderlust that hasn't faded, and probably never will. In 1984, I embarked upon the journey that forever changed my life. While on the Greek Island of Ios, I met Swen and Maria from Sweden. They told me of these marvelous tickets they bought in Athens, flying on an airline that I had never heard of called Biman, Bangladesh.
They had paid $280.00 US for a multi-stopover ticket from Athens to Bombay to Dhaka, and then from Kathmandu to Rangoon to Bangkok. After two weeks with my new Swedish friends (and many of rounds of Ouzo), I decided to forfeit my return ticket to San Francisco and join them on their journey.

It was on a beach in southern India that I found my calling. I decided that my mission in life would be to make around-the-world travel affordable for Americans. I would do what no American travel agency had done to that point by bridging together a group of airline tickets to create amazingly cheap multi-stop itineraries. Since creating the affordable multi stop model, I have also focused on a business and first class model that saves people who in business and first class savings up to 60 percent off of the airlines published fares. The rest is history. I have been able to visit over 75 countries in my travels. I consider myself very fortunate to have seen so much of the world. With this passion for travel at the forefront of my existence, it's a true please to assist as many people as I can to experience the world as I have. Nicholas C. Kontis / President / World Traveler

Effective Nov 1, passengers on international flights will be charged additional fees. This comes from the U.S. Dept of Argiculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service. Look for a fee of $5.50 on each international segment of your trip.

Orbitz.com has changed their hotel booking cancellation fees. While some hotels may still charge their own cancellation fees, Orbitz will not tack on any of their own fees. This does not include their general cancellation policies where hotels are included in a total packaged deal.

The Department of State is alerting U.S. citizens to the quarantine measures imposed by the government of China in response to the 2009-H1N1 pandemic that may affect travel to China. The Alert updates the July 9, 2009, Travel Alert in order to advise U.S. citizens of the current quarantine situation. This Travel Alert expires on Dec. 30, 2009. In May 2009, China implemented a policy that allows it to quarantine arriving passengers who exhibit fever or flu-like symptoms. Although the overall percentage of U.S. citizens being quarantined remains low, the nature of the selection process makes it almost impossible to predict when a traveler may be placed into quarantine. From May to August 2009, the Department of State received thousands of reports of quarantined U.S. citizens. Since September, however, reports of U.S. citizens in quarantine have been infrequent.

That's a really great tip. These things really add up. I find anytime I travel out of the country, I need to contact my service provider to make sure I can get service & what the rates are. People need to realize even if you're picking up your voicemails, it will cost you. I know a lot of people who just take the sim cards out & buy prepaids for the trip, but not everyone has the luxury of being disconnected for long periods.

Yo, iPhone people!

Very helpful piece today from the AP's Frtiz Faerber on how to deal with your iPhone when traveling overseas. You can check out the full article here, but here are a couple of tips. (Me, what I've been doing is switching on flight mode and buying a cheap cell phone with enough talk time to last me the trip -- usually works out much cheaper than roaming!)

>Go to "Settings," then "General" and then "Network." Here you can shut off "Data Roaming" so you won't feast on high-priced data but can still make phone calls.

>In your e-mail settings, turn off the "Fetch" option so you won't automatically download e-mail. Do so under "Settings," then "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" and "Fetch New Data."

>The cheapest international data plan is the $24.99 Global Add-On plan, which gives you 20 megabytes of data at $1.25 per megabyte. That compares to nearly $20 per megabyte if you don't have an international plan. There are other options going up in price and amount of data available.
