What is the actual connection between Robin Hood and Nottingham? (And, one might add, is Russell Crowe a real person or a myth?)  http://bit.ly/d6hZ8R

I no longer go to any movie with Russell Crowe in it. It's so up his own backside.

During the War my father, prior to the invasion of Italy, was stationed in that area. In one of the few things he would talk about about WWII, he told me of getting drunk and running out of money. He couldn't make it back to base, so asked the Sheriff of Nottingham to put him up for the night. He was given a clean cell. That became my father's on-going travel advice to me: if you run out of money, ask for a jail cell ...
Allan, what a great story -- on all levels. Would you post it as a comment on the Nottingham blog?
