Skiing in the United States is mostly split between the Rockies on the west coast - Colorado, Utah, and smaller resorts on the east coast in Maine, New England and Vermont - which cater more to weeken

Colorado and Aspen provide some world famous skiing. Founded as a mining camp and named after the abundance of aspen trees in the area, Aspen has turned into one of the
best ski resorts in North America. The atmosphere is bustling with Hollywood glitz and glamour centred around a European style ski village. The four ski areas - Aspen Mountain, Snowmass, Aspen Highlands, and Buttermilk are famous among winter sports lovers for the most varied terrain in the state, even the country. Despite its snooty reputation for attracting millionaires and Hollywood celebrities, the town is open-minded and inclusive, with events like the Winter X Games and Gay Ski Week, and landmarks like the Woody Creek Tavern. The slopes above Aspen town are known for fantastic views and challenging terrain - this is not a place for beginners. There are double black diamonds and trails through the trees for both boarders and skiers. Looking for a ski holiday in Colorado?
Try Aspen, Breckenridge or Steamboat Springs.

Your description of Aspen is importnat. These are rich people but that doesn't mean the slopes are for wimps. And Aspen Highlands is only for advance skiers. Your also right about west vs east and that the east is really about weekend skiing. If you can get away weekdays as I can then the east offers great prices.
