MARTIN BONNICI PHOTOGRAPHY Photographic Master Classes of Malta and Gozo

Come with me on a hands-on practical step by step photographic master class like no other. We will not only learn the technical aspects of photography and post-production but we will also explore the meaning of an image and how to make your photos work for you. We will learn how to be reactive to the world around us with speed to ensure we can capture the moment. Our canvas will be the spectacular Maltese Islands.

The Maltese Islands are an archipelago in the Southern Mediterranean Sea, they are made up of three islands, Malta, Gozo and Comino; these will be our backdrop. Together we will be exploring Malta and Gozo from the Ggantija temples on Gozo, which date to 5000 BC and gradually move through the ages via landscapes and architecture. You will learn in the field with a very hands on method, you will be surprised how fast you learn and how fast your skills will improve.

The group will start with the basics to make sure we are all on the same page with terminology and the language of photography. This will take us about 4 hours. We will be going through this part of the master class in the UNESCO world heritage site, the Cittadella. Once we are all up to speed and working in the same way we will then be ready to move into advanced shooting.

Understanding how to work with light is extremely important for photographers, we will work through techniques to be able to shoot and get results in low light and hard lighting conditions. These are just some of the specialities we will tackle in the master class. We have been granted special permission to access some low light interiors at UNESCO world heritage sites such as the Grand Masters Palace in Valletta, some of the amazing churches both in Gozo and on Malta, as well as other locations mentioned above.

These master classes will teach you not only how to take technically correct images but also what to look for to make at times intense moody images which will evoke emotion. As a group we will explore how to create a visual narrative through the lens so you can capture it in your image. You will learn how you can tell a story in one image or a series of images depending on your wants and needs. We will look for abstracts, architecture, cityscapes, seascapes and landscapes. As we travel around from location to location we will also look for and shoot street images. It will be through intensive and enjoyable shooting and observing everyday that we will be able to not only learn but also retain the information needed to create strong photographs on the tour and long after you’ve arrived back home.

I look forward to taking you on this exciting photographic journey!
