Taktsang Monastery was built in 1692 into a cliff at 11500ft above sea level. It is said that Guru Rinpoche arrived here on the back of a tigress and meditated at this monastery and hence is is called “Tiger’s Nest”. It is one of the most sacredly known pilgrimage sites for all Buddhist around the globe and visited by all Bhutanese at least once in their lifetime. For a foreigner, if you missed your visit to this monastery then your trip to Bhutan wouldn’t be considered complete. I guarantee you that you will not regret the sweat! The hike will take about 2-3 hrs up a beautiful mountain trail set in the midst of pine forests and rhododendrons. In April, May and June, the mountain side will be splashes of red and pink and yellow blooms of Rhododendron and dogwood. It’s simply amazingly beautiful.
