Writing about travel, food & wine, golf, skiing...and other good things.

Glen Putman is a Los Altos, California freelance writer and photographer specializing in articles on travel, food and wine, golf, and skiing.

He has traveled throughout Asia, Canada, Europe, Mexico, and the United States. Glen once bought a pair of wooden shoes for a Dutch girl in Amsterdam and he has run the track at the ancient Olympic site at Delphi. He rode an elephant through a rain forest in Thailand and skied down snowcapped Mauna Kea volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii. In South Africa he fell in love with a beautiful leopard, and he thinks he once did an after-midnight samba in Brazil. One day in New Mexico, he snow skied, played a round of golf and two sets of tennis, all before the cocktail hour...and then wrote about it.

Glen is Travel Editor for GENTRY, a monthly upscale lifestyle magazine distributed in Northern California. (See www.gentrymagazine.com, and search for Glen Putman). His feature articles and photos have been published in American Airlines’ American Way, Arizona Daily Star, Alaska Airlines Magazine, California Home & Design, Diversion, Forbes FYI, Oakland Tribune, Private Clubs, Robb Report, San Francisco Examiner, San Jose Mercury-News, San Jose Magazine, San Jose Business Journal, Southwest Airlines’ Spirit, Wine Enthusiast, and other publications.

In the 32nd Annual Awards competition of the San Francisco Peninsula Press Club, Glen’s travel columns for GENTRY won First Place for Magazine Feature Columns in 2008. He won the same award for
his work in 2007. He also was a judge in the 2008 Mendocino County Fair Wine Competition.

Previously Glen was Manager of Corporate Communications for United Airlines and Vice President of Ogilvy & Mather Public Relations, where he managed such accounts as California Department of Commerce, Clorox, Pacific Telephone, World Airways, Pearl Cruises, Host International, and Westin Hotels.

Glen is a member of the Bay Area Travel Writers, California Golf Writers Association, International Food, Wine and Travel Writers Association, and the Peninsula Press Club. His published articles include those in Diversion (Napa Valley); Forbes FYI (Isla Navidad, Mexico); Gentry (London, Santa Fe, Tuscany, New Orleans); Private Clubs (Ski Utah, Tahiti, Mexico; go to www.privateclubs.com, archives, search for Glen Putman); San Jose Business Journal (Paris); San Jose Magazine (Cabo San Lucas, Romantic Retreats), and Wine Enthusiast (wine country inns, adventure travel, Gold Country, spas, wine cellar dining, Mendocino, and more). Go to www.wineenthusiast.net, click on Wine Enthusiast magazine, archives; search for Glen Putman.

Glen loves to write about interesting people, places, and things. He has had the good fortune to do so--from Austria to Zimbabwe, from Burma to the Yucatan.

Hi Glen,

Not sure where you got the idea that I'm a Michigan booster; I'd be curious to find out(??). Actually, I live and die (died last week!) with the U of Miami Hurricanes. Just got tickets for a game last night, in fact. My Saturdays in the fall are built around Hurricane games. It's the only tim eof year I allow myself to gorge on chips...
