Itatiaia National Park is the first and so also the oldest National Park of Brazil. It was inaugurated in 1937 and covers almost 30.000 hectares of the
larger Environmental Protection Area of the Mantiqueira mountain range.
Getting there from Rio de Janeiro is a +/- 200 km drive via the BR116 (Rio – São Paulo). The distance from São Paulo is about 250 Km. I’m
lucky to live in Volta Redonda, which is…

Being a motorcycle traveler, for me, “a place” is not as much a city or a village, but rather a region where I travel through. I rarely have a fixed route plan when I leave on a trip, just a general idea of where I would like to go, and the places I would like to visit along the way.
Most of the time I get tons of information about interesting things or places to see on the go, from local people, and that is how you come across some of the most amazing places.
Since I moved to…

If you want to tell people you have seen Rio de Janeiro, there are a few “not to miss” attractions and one of them is the Pão de Açucar (Sugar Loaf). Most people go to the summit of Sugar Loaf the normal way: by cable trolley. Few people know that there are alternative, more adventurous ways to get there. One of them is a walk to the top (referred to as “costão”), a three hour walk which involves a little rock climbing, but nothing…

Being one of the oldest cities in the southern Brazilian state of Paranã, Morretes is a most charming colonial town, tucked away in one of the largest and best preserved areas of Atlantic rainforest of south Brazil.
Oldest building in Morretes. Today it is a restaurant where you can enjoy the local cuisine...
Just like the rest of Brazil, the region where…

On Nov 26, 2010, Maryel and me set out to explore a dirt road, leading east from Campos do Jordão to the Br-459. I had been wanting to check out this road for a long time, so I was glad we finally found some time to do it. Since we had no idea what to expect, we took our dirt bikes, and that turned out to be the right call, because the trail is not really an easy one, but for anyone who would like to do a +/- 90km enduro ride, it’s perfect. As a special bonus, the views of the surrounding…

Rio de Janeiro is a great place for rock climbing, and one of the more difficult climbs, but definitely most beautiful ones is Corcovado mountain (also referred to as K2), on top of which stands the most famous landmark of Rio de Janeiro: the statue of Christ the Redeemer. When a good friend of mine invited me to do this climb, despite not being a real rock climber, I didn’t think twice and accepted.
The climb starts at 500m above the city.…

Dirt road motorcycle adventure in Brazil
I came to Brazil to start organizing adventurous motorcycle tours, so I needed to get out there and explore. This is the story of how a casual afternoon ride turned into a two day adventure…
End of may 2009 I set out with my brand new Yamaha XT660R, and ended up entering a 4x4 trail that would take me from the BR155 (the road from Barra Mansa - Volta Redonda to Angra dos Reis) to Bananal crossing the Serra da Bocaina, which is part…
