the world's smartest travel social network
Seeing how traveling technology has evolved ih the past years makes me think, how today's technology would have impacted journeys like the Che Guevara's? This is particularly interesting to me because of the changes that one of the most important journeys of Ernesto (Che) Guevara produced, and continues producing, in society. In 1952 Ernesto Guevara and his friend Alberto Granados took a nine month journey (this I can write today since we have Wikipedia back to check my facts ;)) with the objective to get to know more of the south America the only knew in books. As we all know (I hope), this journey changed Ernesto's life and that of thousands of people that have sought refuge in his word of revolution against injustice. For those who don't know, Ernesto liked to communicate by letters and also liked to keep his ideas in this format. If you have ever read one of these, you would know that is quiet difficult to understand them and put them into context.
"Let the world change you and you can change the world!"
Now let's imagine for one second: Che using today's technology. Imagine all the places he could have checked in. Machupichu in Peru, to remind us of the marvelous that once was so we can slow down the destruction. The mine's corporations in Bolivia to make us aware of the path we were taking. He probably wouldn't have lost his girlfriend, thanks to communication and connectivity. And the diaries would have been kept online, where everyone could see them and know of different places and what was going on. Imagine the picture sharing option. Maybe for today's experiences is not much, but this could have been very powerful at that time and on his hands. What do you think? Any ideas of how the journey could have been?
If you haven't seen the movie, here I leave a bit of it so you can get started. And keep sharing ...
Comment
Juan, thanks for your comment. We know that Ernesto had a different view of things. I think that he would have noticed still, even having an iPhone in his hands.
Smart questions, tripbutler. The journey itself would have been different too because Che would have been able to do more research before he went and while he was on the road. However, if his head was stuck in an iPhone as so many travelers' heads are, would he have noticed everything he noticed? Would he have been as interested in talking to the people he met along the way?
