Boavista is the largest island of the Cape Verde archipelago, originally colonised by Portugal off the coast of Senegal. This delicacy is one of the specialties of Boavista. Cachupa is another typical dish, made from marinated tuna or pork, corn, beans, carrots, tomatoes and spices. It takes a while to prepare this delicacy but one you try it you’ll understand why people love it so much.

Of interest: In Cape Verde, sea turtles lay from 100 to 500 eggs, which take around 50 days to hatch. Just 1 or 2 out of every 1,000 hatchlings survive. Fish and birds eat the tiny turtles, and as a result there are people who have established associations to raise them in ponds until they are big enough to fend for themselves.
