Since the early 1960s, the small, picture-postcard town of Breckenridge - about 90 minutes southwest of Denver, with affordable transport options including the Epic Mountain Express - has been a magnet for its skiing and winter sports. But although "Breck" like other winter resorts of the USA's Rocky Mountains can be notoriously pricey, it doesn't have to be!
When to Go
Breckenridge is far from just a winter destination, but its at its peak in winter when skiers and snowboarders come flocking. The winter sports season starts from mid-November and lasts till mid-April. However, a lot depends on the snowfall, and the best time visit is toward the end of January and beginning of February. Avoid the weekends to avoid crowds and heavy rush as well as expenses. Try not to visit the w town when it is a holiday or during New Year’s, Christmas, spring break or Presidents Day, as both crowds and prices tend to spike dramatically.
Where to Stay
High season inevitably means mostly high prices, of course. But even at the height of ski/snowboarding season, there are budget options such as motels in the neighborhood of $100 a night (just be sure to book as far in advance as possible!). You're likely to find the best balance of comfort, amenities, and price at Breckenridge house rentals, some at the base of the mountain and even with perks including hot tubs and saunas.
Where to Eat
There are a few Breckenridge restaurants that serve great meals and are very affordable. For example, Mi Casa is very popular among skiers and boarders, and one can enjoy a hearty Mexican meal here for about $5-$6. Enjoy great coffee and a delicious pastry in the morning at the Clint’s Bakery and Coffee House. And Empire Burger is a great option for inexpensive burgers, shakes, comfort food and drinks.
Inexpensive Things to Do
Keep an eye on the timing as timing is everything. Here are some ways you can bring down the cost of your trip.
There is no need to break your bank when on holiday. Just keep the above tips and guidelines when on holiday to Breckenridge as there are plenty of activities here that can be enjoyed for free or at minimal costs. You could go for sledding, hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, rides, museum & art tours which are very reasonably priced options.
